Default Amp selection help

I am really a neophyte at this so I need some help choosing amps. This is what I will be running power wise:

2 10" subs- 250watt RMS each 4ohm

4 6.5" components- 100watt RMS each 4ohm

I plan on running 2 amps. What wattage and how many channels will I need to power the subs and the components?

thanks

Adam

Well I personally would go with the RF G800.4 its 100X4 @ 4 ohms. I am actually looking for highs for my 100X4 amp go figure.

Now for the sub, you always have a lot of choices with amps. Once again RF is a good choice, i like it a lot or pioneer or permier. Just pick one that you think would do a good job then ask around see what everyone thinks. the 500x is 250X2

You really don't NEED that much power if you have quality equipment and set it up right. I am running PPI amps, MB Quarts components, and 2 12 inch Fosgate DVC's.. The Amp running the highs is a PPI powerclass 4200 wich puts out 35 watts RMS to 4 channels. It is loud and clean. The subs are powered by a PPI powerclass 2300. I'm only running 300 watts RMS to the 2 12's. The same setup was in my S-10 before I sold it and it laid down 126 DB with a singl 12 DVC in 2 ohm. I'm sure the 2 12's are producing more than 126 but haven't check.

My advise is 50 watts RMS if you want loud and clear on the highs (PPI is a wonderful way to go) and the 250 should be good for 2 10 inch DVC wired in 2 ohm.

For the best sound out of your speakers you want to overpower them with quality components. This will help by the amp not losing control of the speaker which ends up being distortion.

Ok I'm still confused some. I know that the amp should overpower the subs some but do I need an amp that overpowers the components? Could I use a 600.4 75x4 amp to power the components? Or should I really use an amp that gives them the RMS they use to each channel?

Thanks

To get the best sound you should power the components with 100 watts rms.It also matters on what ohm resistance you plan on running them at.Also it would be helpfull to know what brand speaker you are ussing.

If your components are rated for 100watts RMS I would think you could go with 150 or even 200watts RMS for them. The trick is to listen carefully for distortion or signs that the mid is bottoming out. If they sound fine, then they are.

Hey I can finally help someone.....
For the 2-12's I would say go with a Rockford 800a2, for the speakers I say go with a 600a4, pretty sure they still make the 600a4, but if not stay somewhere in that range

If they are 4ohm speakers just wire them up 4 ohm. The plus side to running lower ohms is less resistance ie more power. 75 watts is A LOT of juice for some little speakers. Have you ever heard someones system that had an amp to there speakers??? if u havent 75 watts would probally be too loud. and you wouldnt use all that power, trust me it will be very loud. For instance i had 50 watts going to my 6x9s and 5.25 componets and some of my guy friends said it was too loud! and there guys we like loud freakin music. Plus a smaller amp is cheaper

Here is a link for some cheap prices;

I ordered my stuff here and got it quickly.
As for overpowering,I run one JL 12w3 dual 4 ohm speaker at 600 watt RMS into 2 ohm. This setup is extremely loud and has total control of the sub.
