Re: Installing a "ENGINE START" button Thanks for your information. If I go ahead with the starter button I would really like the button to be the only way to start the car. I don't mind putting the key and turning it to run or whatever, but I don't want the start position on the key to start the car.
The other thing I was thinking about was adding a toggle switch next to the button. Turning the toggle on would be like putting your key in the run position and then you would push the button to start the car. When you are ready to turn the engine off, flipping the toggle off would kill the engine. Can you help with this scenario? I think it would be a neat setup.

Re: Installing a "ENGINE START" button Well making the button the only way to start it is easy just cut the yellow wire in half and tape up the side going to the ignition switch and hook the other side to pin 30 on the relay. As far as the second set up goes the best way i could think to do that would be to hook up a remote start piece that is usually wired to a car alarm but in this case wire it to the push button so that the button would activate it. since you gotta put the key in anyway to unlock the column this would work out fine. I deal with Viper products at my store and the piece you would need is a 551T and it comes with all the instructions you need to install it. You could probally pick this piece up for around $80.

S2000? i get tired of spanking that back and forth... lets try racing on reverse maybe that would be the only way he could beat me because of his 11000 RPMS... naaah i still dont think so... oh no! WATCH OUT! he has Vtech! hahaha

Re: Installing a "ENGINE START" button I think its pretty cool.. and most people are here are too young i guess to remember that lots of american cars (specificly race cars) all the way back to the 60's had push button ignitions..

Why mess around with all that riged stuff. Just buy something that works and looks great. Take a look its very cool. Have one in my ElCamino and putting one in my '69 camaro.

I did the S2000 button about 4 years ago. Very easy to do and mine is hooked up exactly like you want. Key has to be in run position but turning it all the way will not start the engine. I used the instructions that Steve posted but I guess all the links are no good anymore. There used to be a site called LS1camaro.com or something. I was like an installuniversity type site. The instructions were also there but I think the site is gone. The three wires that go to the ignition switch are the thickest ones you'll find down there if I remember correctly. The starter wire is yellow and I believe that hot is red and switched 12V is pink. Use the instructions the guy posted on page one tap and hook to your relay. I dont know if he mentioned or not but the original creator of this mod used a internal 3.5" floppy disk drive power cable connector as the connector for the back of the S2000 button. I used the same thing and had to tape it in the hold it on the pins on the button. No problems in 4 years.

I just actually read how Johnny on page one hooked his up and its pretty cool how he did it. I did mine another way. I tapped the hot wire and ran it to the relay. Then I tapped the switched wire and ran that to the input on my button. Ran the output from the button to the trigger pin of the relay. Grounded both the relay and button to the firewall. This way the relay can only close with the key turned to run. Good luck.

Well I say "S2000" button because what I installed in my car was an "S2000" button using instructions called the "S2000 push button start mod".

All you need is a relay pack and any latching switch. Or you could just use any switch and a latching relay. Super cheap! I have a friend that removed the keys to the car and used a key-pad only. one button pops the drives door 2nd press same button pops the pass. door. 2 buttons at once starts car. Other buttons due trunk, air ride ect... Very cool idea as people that try to steal his Escalade can't hot wire it and with no door handles and keys they are lost.
Even when the car is started you can't open the door. Last I talked to him he was building a chip so when the car is running it is like remote start and it only lets you drive away with the remote in a 5ft area of car.
Just some input. Also a "race car wireing" is my winter project. Where there are switches to start car. And no acc. wires. Only ign. and starter.

Sounds like a lot of trouble to me. Why don't you just use the Gallotech push button start system?http://www.gallotech.com
