Default Where do I get a remote turn on 12V source - radio Question

I'm going to install a remote pushbutton switch for my factory power antenna (for the radio). With this switch, I want to wire in an LED. I know how to get the voltage down on the LED with resistors, but I need to know if there is a remote 12V output source that comes "on" when the radio is on.

I don't want this light to be on when the car is off, but I do want it to come on when the antenna is up and the stereo is on. I hope I'm being clear... Does anyone know how I can get a 12V source for the LED from the radio? If not, then where in the fuse or relay panel can I get it?

Thanks,
Rob

If you have a monsoon system.....the pink wire on the amp is the remote lead, you could tap into that....not sure where u could find a remote lead if u don't have a monsoon system...i'll look around

thanks.. I do have a Monsoon. I thought the pink wire (pin 8) was the power antenna turn-on. I guess it's the remote amp turn on wire too???

My next question is this.. If I wire in an led to the pink wire, will there be enough voltage (12 volts) to power the led? So the pink wire will be off/on w/ the switch and the LED will get it's + power from the pink wire?

TIA

IF it blows a fuse you need to put a relay on it. just my 2 cents

As for ur voltage ? u'll just have to try it and see. U can always rig a switch on a hot wire and use it as a remote lead....i used too....turned out to be a good idea if u passed a cop

the monsoon amp does not use the remote turn on wire, (the Z's dont even have the pink wire)

so just cut that, and install a switch.

For the voltage,i like to use around 440 ohms for a standard led, when using a 14.4 voltage source.

Ryan.

Well I got it wired in the other day. I used the remote antenna power (blue) wire as power for the LED. Also, I forgot to mention that I have an aftermarket amp w/ the PAC OEM-1. That made it a little different than I thought it would be. I called up PAC and explained what I was doing and the guy told me to splice into the blue wire on the car-side of the OEM1 for power for the LED and for the switch too.

Works great! Maybe sometime if I can borrow my friend's digital camera I'll get a picture.

Thanks,
Robert
