horns and window motors

horns and window motors My 99 SS's low pitch horn went out and my 00 WS6's low pitch horn went out too(second time-still under warranty though, but not the SS's). When I buy a new one, is there any type of mod I can do so then horn won't go bad again?
As for the window motors, my SS needs both sides replaced. I have been seeing a lot of posts about this issue. What do you all recommend? I have been reading: some use GM OEM replacement motors, some use Auto Zone motors, and I even read about someone saying something about FORD motors. My chevy store's service dept. told me they charge me about $250.00 labor to put them in. I am not paying $250.00 for that. Are these really hard to do?

Re: horns and window motors ****... i had both motors in within 2 hours. And that included going to circuit city to buy a set of speakers, figured i had the panels off, why not right?... Just grab your drill, and drill out the holes to expose the rivits, drill those out and the motors fall out... There is a webpage that describes it all, it seems harder than it really is. By the way, i used the Siemens motors, awesome motors. I just replaced mine last weekend. Here is the webpage for directions....

Re: horns and window motors Its a piece of cake....The hardest part is getting the door panels off carefully. Just be careful and take your time. I bought the siemens motors from AutoZone. They cost me 50 bucks a pop and have a lifetime warranty.

Re: horns and window motors I had a problem with one of my horns because water got into it. Instead of replacing it with a factory horn, i had them both taken out and i went to my local Ferrari dealer and bought the air horns that are in the Ferrari's. They installed the horns at the Ferrari place and man-o-man do they sound sweet. A beautiful high pitched Italian note that always gets attention from everyone. I recommend doing this. it makes honking the horn tons of fun. I think the horns are $150.00 new.
