12'' subs??
Okay, recently, before I got my Camaro, I had a Cavalier with a 15" Cerwin Vega Stroker firing towards the windshield, Fosgate Power 1000 amp, AWESOME setup! But anyways, I've been thinking about getting a system for the Z, but I'm not sure about what subs to go with, I was thinking maybe the Kicker L7s? Or wait for the JL Audio W7s? Are there any other subs I should look into? I will be getting 2 12" subs so who makes a good box for our F-bodys? What would be a really good amp to push the solo-barics? W7s? Another question, will the hatch rattle as bad as some of the cars out there, kinda like gorillaz in the trunk trying to get out?!?!
I've got my two 12"s in a box from www.subthump.com. There are a few guys over on LS1.com and CamaroZ28.com who have his boxes also. I've never heard a complaint about them. Q-Logic also makes boxes but I have heard conflicting stories about them so far as the fit of them in our cars. I would go with the subthump box, he custom makes them for you and the fit and finish is good, and the price isn't bad either.
Like I said above I have two 12's in the trunk and when I first put them in they shook the $hit out of the hatch area and the taillights. I Dynamatted most of the trunk, still have more to do, and it's cut down on a lot of the rattling. But there are still small spots that I need to do.
So if you feel like spending the extra money on sound deadening material, then go ahead with the 12's, but if you don't want to spend the extra money, then maybe you should go for a smaller sub, or only one 12. But it's your decision.
This is my subthump box (disregard the fact that there are two diff. subs in there )

you realy named the best 2 subs you can get. subthump makes a nice dual 12" sub box for L7's. I had 2 12" L7's with a rockford 800.2 amp for each sub. thats more then you'll ever need. trust me. If you go w7, the hole isnt the regular 12" hole so keep this in mind. subthump can take care of you there again. good luck with what you decide on.
Nice looking box you got there SS 414, I really like the Solo-Barics, I had 2 of the older ones(round) before they made the square subs, they were just as loud as the stroker, I heard the W7s are going to be a whole crap load of $$$ so my best bet would probably be the solo-barics, right? So the box subthump makes is the best?
Promod1955: You say you HAD 2 L7s, why did you get rid of them or do you still have them, did they make the hatch rattle a lot to where you didn't want to turn it up too loud because it rattles too much?Just curious!

If you are looking for hard hitting base get a custom box and if you don't need your well to put your t-tops then get them to make a custom box and have them firing the subs downward into the well it hits much harder than firing it upward
just my .02
just my .02
to make the L7 sound the best You need Lots of airspace for a ported enclosure. you have 2 options On those woofers, L5 or l7 it all depends on Budget, run them off a Rockford Bd1000.2 You can not go wrong with that amp, if you have room for some caps and an extra battery Run a earthquake Phd2 shredder on 2 l7's.
Like i said it all depends on how much room you wanna give up. Also look into the 10" L7 off a bd1000. It will slam also.

I don't have t-tops so I don't have to worry about that. The box will need to be ported, right? I suppose the subthump people will know everything they need to know to build the box for 2 12" L7s. The Fosgate amp, 1000.2, I'm guessing that's the POWER series and not the PUNCH? Where would be the best place(or cheapest) to buy the woofers and amp?Oh yeh, of course I'm gonna have to upgrade my headunit, anybody know of a good HU?Pioneer, Alpine, or Eclipse? Or is it pretty much personal preference?
Trending Topics
Personally, I like alpine and i like the new clarion for head units, just make sure it has at least 4v out, Sub Out is also nice Cause you can control it all through your head unit.
The Bd1000.2 is the power amp, All the ones ive had had over 1200 watts on there spec sheet. so Its a killer amp for the money. Call around to the Local shops and see what prices there giving, Then ask about custom box building, They can make a Box for you That will fit and sound killer. I personally wouldnt use a pre fab box in this application, Goto a local retailer and have a custom 1 Built. It might cost a few dollars more BUT it will sound better. make sure there a kicker dealer if not they call kicker for the specs on it, you wont be dissappointed.
For the best prices I would Say ebay, I purchase alot of audio through there as long as its an established retailer with Positive feedback. Also another site is www.sounddomain.com there real good also.
What are you doing for Highs?? I would reccomend MB Quart. With a nice alpine 4ch amp. Also Dont forget a Good crossover.
How much do you have to spend????? that will let me give you some good options.

I have as much as I want to spend. The only bills I have is insurance and car payment. But I just started my new job with my uncle remodling houses(actually don't start untill this monday) I think I decided on the Kicker L7s and a custom box from a local retailer, don't have prices on the box yet. But I found some L7s on EBAY for real cheap! For the amp, Am I going to need two of the Fosgate power bd1000.1?Or should I get a "better" amp(If there is one)? I'm not sure on the highs yet, should I replace ALL of my factory speakers? Door, backseat, and hatch speakers? What amp should I get for those? Which crossover for my setup? Or how about an EQ? This is confusing!
BTW: Thanks a lot for helping me out, everybody!!

Get a Pioneer Premier HU....then u won't need separate crossovers and amps.........they are easier to use than any of the other high end HUs on the and IMO they can't be beat for sound quailty.

They give you set frequencys, Sometimes there to High and sometimes there to Low.
personally Like all my cars they All get MBQuart highs, In a fbod you can do 2 sets of DSD 216 For the front and the rear, I power them off a 4ch amp, In your case i would Run a alpine MrvF540 Its got some power but the key thing is You dont want distortion in your system, Distortion is what Blows speakers. So if you have a little more power It will be a clean signal. Run a bd1000 On 2 L7 Kickers and get a good 3 way xover even with a bass ****, I use pretty much the same xover ive had for 2 years and that a coustic xm3e with a bass ****. Its Good and it works. put a optima Up front and ad 2 caps in the back on the amps.
Your system will be Clear and Slam, you will be happy TRUST me, ive done this setup in a few cars. Just make sure the box is ported and built right, that makes a big diffrence. If you have any other ?'s Email me or Just ask.

Thanks for all the help!! I'll probably do what you said GMNightmare. Sounds like a really good setup that will put a hurting on most of these people around here where I live! THX!
