Wiring up Theft Deterrent to Stock Alarm
Hey folks, i am new to the forums, but hopefully will become more active here.
I got a 97 Firebird that has the stock theft deterrent system installed, and I just bought those stupid little LED Theft Detterent Scanners (Here's a link). I want it to come on either when the alarm is on (by using the remote to lock the doors) or when the doors are locked.
Now it has three wires, a Power Wire, a Ground Wire, and then a Yellow wire that when grounded, will allow turn the LED Scanner on. So if I wanted it on all of the time, i would connect the Yellow wire to the ground wire, and the led would always be on.
However I want it on when the alarm is on/doors are locked (they both will do the same thing for me, cause I only lock the doors using the alarm remote).
What I am wondering is if anybody here knows how to wire this up, so that I could have it this way. I want the scanner on my dashboard just above the vent. There must be a door lock wire i could attach it to. Any and all information is appreciated. Thanks folks!

The factory alarm system doesn't have a "ground while armed" circuit like most aftermarket alarms do. So there is no simple way to do what you want. However, you could rig a relay to keep the ground circuit disconnected while the ignition is on and then provide ground when you shut the car off. Or perhaps a latching relay connected to the door lock wires so that the pulse from locking the doors "latches" the relay and turns the scanner on.
