Traction control question...

Traction control question... I hate that "Traction Control Off" idiot light in my gauge pod.
Would I cause any kind of malfunction or set any codes if I removed the bulb?
I have heard of guys putting electrical tape over the bulb housing under the gauge face, but it seems to me that this might retain alot of heat and melt something or maybe even be a fire hazard.
Any suggestions/comments?
