Default question about adding new HU???

O.K., if i replace my crappy Monsuck, er i mean Monsoon with a new head unit, maybe something in an Alpine flavor, and keep the same amp from the factory and add a sub later, will i stil have the issue of the speakers sounding like crap because of the 2 ohm vs, 4 ohm ratings? I don't want to do the wrong thing and have to redo, so could i replace my speakers later with the new head unit and sound better than factory? Thanks.

You can add an aftermarket stereo to the factory monsoon system by using an adapter. Im sure there are many decent stereo shops in our area, I just haven't had the time to check them out. Here are links to a few adapters I think you will need to adapt your monsoon system with an aftermarkrt stereo, and another adapter to retain steering wheel controls.

P.S. I'll try to make it to the thing wednesday outside of Sports Authority off Lumsden. What time?

why are you telling him to buy a pac-oem just to replace the headunit? all he needs is a standard gm harness like a metra 70-1858. he can even get the harness he needs from walmart for a few bucks. people only use the pac piece when adding a bass amp to the factory head unit otherwise it is a waste of money.

The reason I recommended the Oem-1 was because he is retaining the monsoon amp. The Oem-1 has harnesses with plugs at both ends, so it's just a plug-and-play setup. I know the metra harness you're talking about, but that still requires wiring to the stereo harness, and also, I think the speaker outputs of the monsoon deck are signal level (500mA) instead of speaker level, and some attenuation might be needed between the aftermarket deck and the monsoon amp signal inputs; which explains why ppl are having noise issues when using aftermarket decks with the factory amp/speakers.

Also, I believe that if you get a head unit that uses Mosfet power you will have problems going through the factory amp. I know Pioneer uses mosfet type power. Food for thought.

Replacing just the headunit will sound somewhat better, but the fact of the matter is that the speakers and amp are crap. The amp introduces a ton of distortion into the system and the speakers reproduction is aweful. You can check out http://www.fbodyaudio.com/articlevie...4thgenfaq.tech

That is a link to www.fbodyaudio.com tech section. It is a good faq for beginners.
