Default Help me install a kill switch (2000)

Ok, i have searched the "whole" internet and have only found pictures/write-ups for kill sitches on older 4th gens. I have tried to use these to install either a fuel pump kill switch or starter wire kill switch, none have helped. My car has different color wires and things are in different places then what i have seen.

Can anyone with knowledge about the newer f-bods (2000 would be perfect)help me with a fuel pump or starter kill switch. What wires to cut, where? Anyone that can take pictures of these wires to help me out?

Thanks

OK the stater wire is going to be a 10 gage yellow wire. You are going to cut that wire. Go to your local DEI dealer and buy a starter kill relay and harness. Put the Green and the Yellow wires together to the switch side. Put the Black side to the other side. For the Orange wire you will need to ground that wire. These are the wire colors on the harness. My suggestion for the Orange wire is to get a toggle switch and put one side to ground and the other to the Orange wire.

Ok, i am fine with the way the switch relay works, problem is finding the wire. Do you have pictures or any better instructions on finding this wire? And i am not sure we have DEI's here, is it just a hardware shop like lowes or home depot? Or is it a car place?

And are you saying to put a switch into the ground wire? Will this work the same way as putting a switch into the actual starter wire?

you will find the yellow wire he is speaking of next to the steering column. it runs along side some other 10ga wires. some colors you should see next to it is like 2 reds a brown, orange and pink all the same size as the yellow.

as far as the starter kill he is speaking of you can use a standard bosch style relay. when you cut the yellow wire run the key side to 87a run the non key side to 30 and use a small jumper wire to connect 87a to 85. you will have two contacts left 87 and 86. just cover 87 up you don't need it. 86 is gonna be a trigger wire to enable the starter kill run it to a simple toggle switch and ground the toggle switch. when the switch is on you will have a starter kill when the toggle switch is off you will be able to crank the car.

he switched pins 85/86
red wire=to ignition
white wire=to starter
orange wire=to switch(does orange go to one pole of the switch while the other pole is occupied by a wire going to a ground?)

Is the 1/2 amp diode needed?

it's all good it works the same regardless

never heard of preventing inductive lockup. i've heard of quenching diodes to prevent voltage spikes from the coil but inductive lockup is definatly a new one

yes on toggle switch with 2 wires one wire would go to ground while the other goes to the relay. every factory style starter kill i ever see where the starter wire is being used to energize one side of the coil always seems to have a diode on it so it definatly doesn't hurt. i don't think i've ever ran into a problem with not using a diode but i usually get the power for my coil from the pink ignition wire cause that's the way the new dei starter kills are wired up. they did away with the diode like 2 years ago when they started useing the ignition wire to power the coil

use the diagram you have that way you can visually see how it goes...........i would go ahead and use a diode cause i have them readily available to me. i honestly don't see you haveing a problem without it though....but to answer your question yes i would put the diode in there

1) Does the orange wire go to one pole of the switch(from the relay) while the other pole is occupied by a wire going to a ground? what amp rating should the switch be? I have a 25amp switch, but i can get a smaller switch if i don't need it to have that high of rating.

2.) To operate this:
- Switch turned on = able to start car.
- Switch turned off= starter will not work.
The starter only needs power while being started, so would i be able to get a momentary button and press it when i wanted to turn on, and after it is started let go and have it go back off? Or would i want a on/off switch and turn it on when i start and drive, and turn it off when i take the key out and park.

umm yes the orange goes to one side of the switch and the other side to ground..........a relay requires like .5 amp to energize the coil so a much smaller switch is all you need.......... the configuration we are looking at now is operated by turning the switch on to activate the starter kill and turning the switch off to let the car crank......... if you want to make it were the car only starts while you hold down a momentay switch that can easily be done but we will need to change a few wires around

ok, i would realy like it to be activated by pushing a momentary button. The place where i got the pictures had the orange wire going into a splice of the passanger side window wire (light blue). His starter worked when he held down the passanger side window down, and not when it wasn't held down. It seems like the way he had it would work the way i wanted it (push button to start). Is there something i am missing? What wires would need to be switched to do the push button?

in that picture you have move the white wire to the upermost pin (87) now you will have to have ground on the orange wire to start the car cause the relay is now leting the car start instead of stoping it from starting. so you would use a momentary switch with one side going to ground and the other side going to orange. so the car can only be started while holding down the monentary switch. now depending on what kinda aplication you wanna do you can make it were the relay is energized by a positive or a negative. with our curent setup we are discussing it is done with a negative

Well, I installed everything today.I included both a push button and valet switch, both in hidden places. It came out prefect! If anyone needs help you can ask me. Thanks again Johnny (everything worked like the way we discussed it)

Staying with Brents starter kill switch post...using the window up switch...where are the connections made in the later model 4th gen (1999 and up?) The idea is awesome, but when I went to do it, I ran into a problem. There is no purple starter wire under the passenger side kick panel, or any heavy gauge wire for that matter. Where is the starter wire? Any help would be awesome.

Also, is there a difference between the Purple starter wire on the earlier 4th gens, and the yellow ignition wire on the later 4th gens? This is my 1st F-bod, so Im not too up with the wiring yet. I just want to make a quick, yet effective starter kill that doesnt mess with the rest of the electronics (radio settings, etc). Please help out a newbie. Thanks.
