I'm looking into buying a system for my 1999 Trans Am, I am planning on buying an Alpine head unit with the iPod hookup so i dont have to pay $150 for a cord to hook it up to the stock stereo. What combination of amp and subs do you guys think would sound best in my car? Prices?

Itll be hard to get a nice set of subs as well as an amp for under 600. I spose you could do something like Duals or MTX. They arent the best and I personally wouldnt put them in my carbut the do have an ok sound to them.
Each of my alpines cost me 200 a piece with my amp being about 400.

Bang for the buck right there. It may look ugly, but Dayton is great stuff.
I wouldn't put Alpine subs much above MTX, and I wouldn't buy either.

DO NOT get a bandpass box or even radiators... Sealed enclosure is what you'll need for your music tastes... Going to be a nice and tight bass line to be able to handle a rapid bass drum that doesn't sound like one long continuous note.
Other than that, there's going to be a lot of opinions... none of which I can tell ya. Your best bet is to go into a store, test em out with YOUR music and then shop for best prices... Where do you live? In Chicago we have an old dude named Pops that hand builds speakers that will knock the dicks off most high end subs out there... Lifetime warranty and a hell of alot less than most OTC subs

best bang for your buck: this is what i did, and you can get similar, check ebay. that's your best bet....
jl audio 6.5 coaxls-$65 shipped
jl 8"s for sail panel-$65 or so shipped
jl 4"s for rear $45 shipped
if you wish to keep the stock hu and amp, cool. otherwise i'd recommend a Pioneer DEH7700MP. from Wallyworld for $260. plays mp3, wma's, etc...
that averages $435. if you're not looking to "wake the neighbors", you could get an aftermarket amp, say a new 2 ch jensen for $80 to push the 8"s.
otherwise, you can skip the 8"s and the amp, use your stock sail panel subs, being they're not blown and still get decent bass. Again, you're not going to wake any one up.
you can pick up a sub thump box for about $120 or so, and pick up a 10w0 jl audio sub for about $100 or so from your local audio shop.

and before i get flamed for the jensen amp, i picked up a 4ch 600w amp for about $130. it matches my jensen dvd hu. and it's pretty good. i'm not looking for window shattering bass, and it pushes all my **** rather nicely. i've read pretty good reviews so far also. but i'm talking their 06/07 line. the new new ****.. not the old ****.

Did you even go to my link? Dayton is probably the best value in speakers out there.

Check out Elemental Designs! Low price and great performance ratio, just about unbeatable. Their Ov.2 line of subs are much better than the JL 6w2's, and cost WAY less! http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/index.php
