I wanna be able to use CD's again
I wanna be able to use CD's again I have a alpine 9845 HU in a factory basic * non monsoon * car. And I had to break off the stock rear strap/mount to fit the headunit in, as it was too long, so the front two screws are all that is supporting the headunit. Everytime I hit a bump the cd will skip, I assume b/c there is no support in the back. Im not talking about pot holes and speed bumps, Im talking about little bitty lines in teh road and ****.
It does not do it when playing the Ipod through aux imput ( RCA ) or radio..

Not to be a smartass,but do you have the tabs on the radio's cage bent up to hold it to the piece that the radio goes into?Like in the illustration here http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/IS...de.html?page=4
Wow, just the fact that you think your being a smart *** makes me feel like a dumb ***. I don't remember doing that at all... God, this was my first HU install, never knew about that. I'll tear into it tonight after work and see whats up, thanks a lot.
I've never had any problems so long as the radio is secured tightly to the mounting kit. So as Jake pointed out that might be your first problem.
While you have the kit out though, it is also fairly easy to jamb a peice of foam or even cardboard to shore the back of the unit up.
If the head unit is really setup snug and you still have the problem, you could have a bad unit. If the laser alignment is off you will have more skipping.

I never bothered with those tabs either. It didn't seem to me like they would do that good of a job holding things in.
Instead, on either side of the HU, I attached the mounting kit with 2 m6 machine screws, which were included with the HU. The HU and the mounting kit formed one solid assembly. I use the 2 screws up front and the stud in the rear to hold things in place, but i'm pretty sure I could of just as easily gotten away without using the rear support.
In an old car, I placed a thick piece of rubber between the button of the HU and the dash support cage (~1/8" thick) in case there were any vibrations.
