Default Using factory LED for the aftermarket alarm

I want to use the factory led light up on the dash vent as the LED that gets activated with my aftermarket alarm. I know the power wire to that led is the dark green wire of the blue plug at the BCM, so I thought I could just try tapping into it with one of the wires from the after market LED harness. So, i jumpered a wire across and found that if I used the red wire to jumper, the factory light would be constantly lit and the aftermarket light would do nothing. If I used the other wire, the exact opposite would happen. I know LED are kinda funky when it comes to which way current is running, do I need to run one of the wires to the dark green wire at the bcm and find the ground wire of the factory led to run the other wire to?

i'd just cut both leads to the factory one and run it to the alarm, LEDs only take current one way, so what you were experiencing was either always on, or always off (with the other wire). the factory LED, alteast in my car, has a habit of working every now and then even though i have an aftermarket alarm, so chances are it is recieving signals from both the BCM and alarm and its acting funky. that would be my guess, i'm no electronics expert though...

I use the factory LED with my DEI alarm but, like spy2520 said, I disconnected it from the BCM and wired both leads to the aftermarket alarm. It works fine.

That was my guess. Where is any easy spot to grab the ground lead from the factory LED?

I just pulled up the top dash panel and got the wires fairly close to the LED.

I pulled it up yesterday, but was hoping to grab something a little easier to get to. I wasn't sure how to get the wire back down from that spot, but I'll figure it out.

The good old bent coat hanger works wonders for fishing wires.

The good ole coat hanger worked like a champ. Ran them down in front of the defroster vent and hooked in below the stereo. Thanks as always!
