I don't know about using plywood for a sub woofer enclosure either, but it holds the sub, and works decently, maybe when I get some free time this winter after I pick up a DD, and do some winter maintenance to the T/A, I'll re do it in MDF. Oh, and yup, I'm that cheap, I enjoy cheap products that do what I want done. Like I said, I wasn't looking for anything booming, I don't enjoy nasty hatch vibrating bass, and I dont need anything extravagant, I just needed some filler and this does the job great. I've gotten a few compliments for a well rounded set up already. Maybe someday after I'm done with performance mods, I'll think about a bigger system ( would love to replace my front door speakers with some nice alpines or something ) but I'm satisfied for now.

There ya go. Do what works for you. Plus there would be no point in putting a nice system in the hatch and still running the Monsoon crap up front.

This isn't a monsoon car though, its a base delco system with a alpine head unit.

Nice inexpensive setup. Perfect for example of someone not breaking open the piggy bank and coming away with a decent looking install. I dont like the amp on the flap, but all in all I think you did a decent job. Density of material has already been discussed so your on the right track. Over all I've give it a B+. You could just drive around with the flap open when your using it and then it will be right side up for cooling. Turn it over for parking. But that would be a pia.

I have a massive amp (200watts rms x 4 channels) and it hangs on the back wall, Not real happy with the amp rack though. Thinking about moving it to the flat spot right behind the back seats and put a cage around it. But it still needs air for cooling and to be semi stealth. It will over heat on a hot day at hi power with the flap closed.

i like cheap too. i went with jl's off of ebay for grand total of about $100 bucks. that's front 6.5 sail 8"s and rear 4"s. i even bought a new jensen 4ch amp from the part store for 130. it's cea rated, so i guess that good. oh, and i have a jensen dvd flip out hu. some day, i'll get a seperate 2ch jensen to power the 8's by them selves.

but over all, i like it. i give my set up an A-

Thanks guys.

I am thinking about taking some wood strips, and routing them and fitting them to the flaps recessed area's to keep it sturdy.
