JL stealthbox stuffed with cotton type filling.. why? Hi, i recently had to remove my sub to get a replacement, i use the JL stealthbox. When i removed the sub, i realized most of the box was full of cotton stuff. like 80% full. Why would they do this? if i remove it would it make it thump louder?

it makes the sub think it's in a bigger box. It absorbs the sound waves coming off the back side of the sub and makes the sub sound less "boomy". I have my sub box stuffed full of poly fill. I don't get the SPL's I would without it being stuffed, but I have much tighter and accurate bass compared to a "boomy" bass.
Taking it out will probably make it louder, but it won't be as accurate. It's all in what you are looking for.
