Default Voltage Question

I have a 96 TA, and noticed lately that the voltage from my guage is really getting high. When I started my car and let it warm up today, it was getting close to the red area. By the time it warmed up, it had dropped just below that 3/4 line (15.5v). Is this a problem and if it is, what should i do?

Thanks, Mike

First, test the actual voltage at the battery using a multimeter. The factory gauges are notoriously inaccurate. If it's too high (over 15 volts) you probably have a problem with the voltage regulator. You can get the charging system tested at most auto shops for about $20.

If it's the stock alternator the voltage regulator is going. Same thing happened to me. Be prepared to replace it soon.
