Mounting amp in hatch

Mounting amp in hatch I'm finally mounting my amps in the bird and want to do so on the hump behind the rear seats above the gas tank since my box will sit in the recess. I'm a bit worried about my screws going too far, so what have all of you done or seen to avoid drilling in too far?
I'm thinking about putting down some aluminum strips across the top under the carpet to drill down into, anyone tried this approach?

yep. i actually took a long peice of 3/4" MDF that i had left over from my actual sub box and i laid that as far up as i could against the backseat under that carpet, then scred by sub box to that with some L brackets right through the carpet. worked AWESOMELY. it was mounted so well for just going through the carpet, i was shocked. and it gave an awesome clean look with no mounting points shown. i did it for my box, but same thing for an amp.

Well I went ahead and went with my first idea, grabbed some aluminum strips and jb welded them across where my amps will be mounted, it worked much better than I thought, this raised it a little over 1/4" and I'll still keep the padding over it. Here's a quick picture, i'll snap another one tomorrow with everything in once I get it cleaned up.
