Alpine CDA-9855 Problem (KCA-420i)
This is a question for all the iPod users that use the Alpine CDA-9855 coupled with the Alpine KCA-4201 (iPod interfacer)... I hooked up the head unit and interfacer, but it isn't recognizing my iPod. Everything else works great- steering wheel controls, radio, etc., but not the iPod. The iPod, when plugged into something with power, should automatically turn on, correct? Mine does no such thing, so I'm guessing the interfacer isn't receiving power. Am I missing something? It seems there was just two cables coming from it... the Ai-Link and the iPod cable. Do I have to turn it on on the head unit? I flipped the switch on the bottom from Normal to Ai-Link/EQ mode, or whatever it was.
I just can't figure this out and it's really frusterating because this stuff cost a lot of money together for the sole purpose of matching the interior while giving me iPod playback. Any ideas? Thanks!

That's how I tried it first and it didn't work. I have no idea what to do. It's back on normal and still not working. I have a 5gen iPod Video. That's compatible, right? Is there anything I need to do in the head unit's settings?

is your ipod software up to date? when you plug in your ipod to your pc, itunes will tell you if you need to update your ipod.
the install and hookups are pretty straightforward, i didn't have to do anything special with mine. maybe it's bugged?

intersting... I used to have a 9855, the 420I, and a 5th gen video ipod as well and it all worked fine.
I don't recall their being any head unit settings, it automaticly detects the 420i on the ainet.
try a different ai-net cable if you have one perhaps ?

did you get the stuff from a store that you could return anything too ? it could be the ai-net on the radio is bad, could be the cable, could be the ipod adapter.. but without swapping out parts, it's hard to tell.
