Hi guys, I have been wanting this unit for awhile and Fry's had it for $299.00 so I went ahead and bought it. I know there are some members here that have this unit and I was wondering if there is anything I need to know about it??!! Likes/dislikes...I'd like to hear it all. Seems to have every option and then some!! I was gonna get the avx2 but it seemed like a bigger screen and that was all. Plus it is $599.00. Twice the price for half an inch bigger screen...just couldn't justify it. Heres a generic pic:



I will go ahead and take pics of the entire system soon. I have some but the quality sux so I'll break out the cyber shot and take some real pics soon as I install this and my new XM system as well.

 

Preliminary pics of the install. I still have some more to do as far as satelite radio but I think it is looking pretty good. I'll have to get some daytime pics and burn off some video to play. This thing reads everything...DVD, JPEG, MP3 on a DVD, MP3 on CDRW, you name it. I still have some programming to do also. I'll get back on it tommorrow.

 

Does this have any kind of crossover built in?

 

Darn...it reads MP3 off of a DVD-R??? Thats hot. 4.7 Gigs of music! Wish my Premier read DVD-R...

I was looking at this unit for awhile too. I just thought it was too much... So I went with the pioneer.

They are $299.00 now. I thought the same thing when they were like $599.00. Fry's had em down to $399.00 and over the weekend marked down to $299.00...couldn't pass it up!! I think it holds like 900-1000 MP3's on a DVD-R. It does have built in crossovers that control everything from hz (front, rear, sub each has own setting) to seating position, etc. It can even turn the internal amp off since I use a seperate 5 channel amp it is a nice feature. It has so many features I can't list them all. Only thing missing is a usb or sd card reader but with DVD playback I'm not sweating it.

 

Anymore pictures? You're sure it has a crossover built in? What about the newer version? That have a crossover too??

 

I'll get some more pics today it is cold but sunny outside!! I'll also check the crossovers but I'm very sure I went through the menu and saw all the adjustments which included a pretty indepth crossover...I'll verify that though.

 

SLP Hawk...this HU does have a high pass crossover for the front and rear speakers that can be adjusted. It also has a low pass crossover for the sub output that can be tweeked as well. Here is the link to my pics of the entire system:

I just bought the AVX2 and will have it in this weekend. Doesnt get here til saturday. I thought you would like to know everything it does. The main reason I got it instead of the x1 was because of the center channel preout. Going to have 5.1 in the car.

do you know if it plays dual layer dvds? i assume it would, most dvd videos your buy now days are dual layer. if it could play dual layer mp3 dvds thats 8.5 gigs of mp3s

 

Thanks Tristan!! I didn't know it did the center out. That's cool!! Now I just looked at a couple of web sites and they have the avx2 down to around $360.00 shipped in a couple of places!! They just keep getting more affordable. I think my next move a few years from now will be a car PC. They are just too cool!!
Dan..I'm not sure if it plays dual layer or not...I know it has the gigaMP3 feature which says it reads a standard 4.7gig DVD disc which translates to about 900 MP3's. Also reads seperate folders which you would seriously need to do with that many songs!! I'll have to dig a little more to find out that answer!!
