Default stock replacements

i'm looking for stock replacement speakers for the monsoon system.

i would like to keep the stock head unit and amp.

i'm not trying to replace everything to have a killer system, just something decent at normal volume levels.

right now everything sounds ok, with the exception of the distoration in the passenger side door speaker.

and i'm not against adding a custom mount/ring sold by the members here.

thanks
tony

I just replaced the stock speakers in my 97 Trans Am (Monsoon) with factory replacements, and I am VERY happy with it. It sounds darn good for a factory system, I think. I'm not out to force the neighborhood to listen to my music, like you said, I wasn't out for a killer system, I just wanted to listen to my music on something decent sounding. I am not disappointed at all with the factory speakers.

You can get the door mids, and the sail panel subs reasonably cheap on eBay, that's where I got mine. I bought new door tweeters from gmpartsdirect.com, they were only $16 each.

Why not just replace the distorted sounding speaker with a new Monsoon speaker? My door speakers were distorted sounding, come to find out, the foam surround had disintegrated after 10 years of use.

Because many of us realize that the stock speakers sound like crap? Hey, if you like 'em, great. In a way, I wish I also would find them adequate, as I wouldn't be spending all the money I do on car audio

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say they sound like crap. Tony did say he wasn't looking for a killer system.

I've done my time as a car audiophile. Back in 1989 I replaced everything, dual amps, CD player, EQ, spent WAAAAY too much time and money picking out just the right speakers and components for my 86 Trans Am. So I know where you're coming from.

I spent some time debating if I should just replace all my blown out Monsoon speakers with new factory ones in my 97 TA, or upgrade everything. The only reason I hesitated on getting new Monsoon speakers was hearing on here how crappy they sound. I am glad I decided to replace them, because I was pleasantly surprised at the sound. I wouldn't classify them as 'crap' at all. Yeah, they aren't going to win any audiophile contests, or rattle the windows in the car next to you.

But, for the guy who just wants something that sounds decent, at reasonable listening volumes (and I crank mine up a bit at times), I would recommend buying new stock speakers (as long as you get them at a decent price, dealer price is crazy!)

I am not saying anything bad about killer systems, don't get me wrong. Like I said, been there, done that, and plan to do it again....someday.... in my 97 TA.

is there anything needed as far as the speaker mount or dyanmat or something when replacing the stock speakers with monsoon replacements?

Your car has the Monsoon system now, right? If so, nope, just order the speakers, and bolt them in.

Sound deadening the doors will definitely help a lot, even with stock speakers. It's not required, but definitely recommended.

I must say, I am shocked at how much road noise these 4th generation F-bodies transmit into the car.

Yeah. It's going to take a lot of money to help there, unfortunately. Plan to spend at least $300 if you want to fix that.
