With all the wires that constantly need to be run thru the firewall I finally gave up using the pcm grommet - too many wires crammed thru there already.

I drilled a hole in the firewall above and to the right of the engine, and above and to the left of the engine, and installed bulkhead wire feedthru's with 1/2" dia. grommets in them.

You need to have an extension for your hole saw to reach the firewall when drilling since it's hard to fit drill under the cowl. Once the feedthru's are installed it's an easy task to push the wires thru from the engine side...

I have a 98 T/A which has a different computer than most so I don't know if it has the same bracket holding it in. Mine has 2 7mm nuts holding the 2 harnesses into the tops of the PCM's The PCM's are held in a bracket by 4 T-25 torx screws. I unscrewed the 7mm and disconnected the harnesses then undid the T-25 torxes and slid everything out. The back torx on the left was a littel difficult but I got to it. When thats out the grommet is right there in easy reach. I don't know of any other way to route the power wire for and amp in these cars. This is how my car's (1998) PCM arrangement is yours may be different but the best way to route the wire is through there!!

I also just found this at F-body audio in the "4th gen general upgrades FAQ" section. This is for later (99-02) models other than mine I think as I did not have the 10mm bolts. Here's the write up:

Under the hood on the passenger side you'll see the PCM. Its far back towards the windshield. You'll see a lot of wires going in to a couple of harnesses that plug into it. Theres 2 10mm bolts that hold it in. Remove the 2 7mm bolts holding the harnesses in and set the harnesses aside. Then remove the 2 10mm bolts holding the PCM secure. Now you can turn the PCM sideways so that the part where the wires went is now facing the passenger fender. The PCM will now lift right out with ease. You could leave the harnesses attached but it causes you to have to struggle to get the PCM out of its cubby hole. You'll now see a rubber grommet in the firewall. You can fish your wire thru here. Now inside the car, go to the passenger kickpanel, up behind the glovebox you'll find your wire. Its usually easier to remove the kick panel to find the wire. Anytime you add any wires to the battery, make sure you fuse them within 18 inches of the battery.
Hope some of this helped!! Good luck!!
