electrical problem
electrical problem my car keeps loosing power. i have a new alternator and a new optima. autozone says they both pass but my battery will not charge when my car is on. anybody have this problem? howd you fix it.
well i just put a new alt in, and it was tested before installed and after installed, i have kept everyhting off in the car so current draw cant be the prob, the car is idoling around 800-1000 so i doubt thats it.
So if the alternator was tested after the install, how is it nor working if it passed the test?

same thing is going on with mine.iam on my 4th alt in one day and cant find the problem. Iam thinking its the red wire that plugs into the alt from the harness.iam trying to trace it down right now..if you come up with anything let me know and ill do the same for you if i find anything

You don't mention about the battery. How old is it. As they get older the cells inside can short out. Back in the day you could test the specific gravity and find a bad cell. If the battery is old replace it with a high power battery. Check the output of your alternator. It should be around 14.5 Vdc. Battery voltage with the car off is around 12 v and should be discharging due to thecomputer. These discharge at a very slow rate.
Have you checked the exciter wire on the back of the alternator? It is the little wire that plugs into the back of it and comes out of the harness.
I was going through this samething till I pulled the alt and started checking out that wire. Found out that I had broke it at the connector.
