Default Tweeter Mounting

I am looking to put some components in my 99 Camaro but I'm not sure where to mount them. I know you can find tweeter pods out there and that is an option. Has anybody cut the A-pillar and mounted them there, like where they are mounted in the new Chevy trucks? What about the A-pillar vents?

Personally, I say as close to the midrange component as possible - but angled as desired.

That might be true but I have also heard to get them higher up so the highs aren't blocked out by the passenger.

I know the general area of where I want to put them but was wondering if anybody had some creative places ie: vent, A-pillar, etc.

someone on this board mounted them on the triangle part on the door where the mirror attaches. It looked really good and I want to know how he did that. I think that way you wouldn't have to cut your a pillar and it may even be reversible.

here is his sound domain page

yea. those are the tweeter pods. I have seen them for about $50 but it seems like their availbility is hit or miss. the a-pillar idea seems like it would be cool if it could work. the tweeter pods look kind of strange when the doors are open.

No one manufactures tweeter pods for the f-body. Usually they are made by owners who know how to make fiberglass pieces from molds. if you want to try it yourself, read the tutorial here, or go to fbodyaudio.com's forums and ask nicely in the fabrication forum. Maybe someone can hook you up and make you a pair for a price.

they do now ... although I'll admit, turn around time is a little slow right now as I'm still getting caught up with orders.

Is there any info on the a-pillar mounting? If that hasn't been done than I'll probably be talking to you pretty soon Mike.

I've done a-pillar mounting before. You just cut a hole in the plastic, and use your tweeters flush mount kit. Only thing is, this will normally aim your tweeters at the windshield, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your paticular tweeters, and how you like your sound.

The best a-pillar mounting I've ever done involved building out the apillars a bit so the tweeters fired directly across at each other, and were not aimed at the windshield at all.

Is there enough room behind the a-pillar so all you have to to is cut? got any pics?

I'm not trying to screw you out of a sale I just think that the a-pillar mounting has potential to look a lot cleaner than the pods. Would the difference in sound quality be noticable do you think?

depth depends on the tweeter, but I've never had a problem. Now, I mounted them in the flat area just above the dash, not up on the pillar area itself. No pics handy, sorry.

Sound wise, a-pillars seem to give nice stage depth, while tweeter pods give a wider sound stage. Both give great stage height, yet both can be a bit in-your-face if you have a bright tweeter. I "personally" perfer kickpanels, but that's not everyone's cup of tea due to the work involved, and decrease foot room.

I'm not here just to pimp my tweeter pods, I'm here to help people with their audio issues. If my tweeter pods are the solution, great. If not, I'm not going to withhold helpful information just to try and make a sale. It'd be different if fabrication was how I made a living, but it's just away to offset some of the cost of my hobby.

That looks pretty good. When I get my components I'll figure out what is going to work best (pods or pillar). I'll probably pick them up this week and get things figured out by the weekend. Thanks for the help and if i'm in need of some of your pods I'll contact you.
