Default Exploding speakers, and i don't mean from walmart

Recently purchased a 97 Formula. Installed my alpine deck in, worked fine, the car already had wires in it for an amp/sub. I was screwing around, and hooked MY amp up to one of the rear speakers. Well, needless to say a very loud sound came out, bad sounding, and some really bad burning smells from the speaker.

Well, Now the sound in the car isnt working, the deck still works fine, the other speakers just arent working. Im not sure if my model had a small amp to it, or why this is not working.

Any reccomendations?

What kind of amp (specs...not that it matters)?.......why would you do that?? How did you hook it up?

Do you have 6 speaker locations (doors, sails, and hatch) ?
-If so...you do have a factory amp. See. FAQ for more info.

i beleive mine is only 4 total speakers, 2 front, 2 back. I know it doesn't have monsoon system, because i don't beleive that was quite out yet in 97.

my amp is a rockford fosgate, 1500 watt dual channel i beleive.

I had done the same thing on my old car and i didn't get that effect.

It was out in '97 -- I'm sure of that...because my car has it. So you hooked up the amp to only one speaker? It was disconnected from the factory wiring/etc...right?

no...actually it was hooked up to everything..like i said, i was just being dumb and screwing around. Since the actual deck is still running, my only idea would be that i blew an amp, but im not even sure if my car has an amp, being as it wasnt monsoon.

time for a new HU possibly -- don't do that again (as if you would), you got lucky the first time.... internals of your deck are done it sounds like....display probably works if that's what you mean by deck working, but not the circuitry providing power.. Check things like the fuse in the deck..

Yeah, i havn't checked the head unit stuff yet, display is still fine, prolly gonna go check the fuses in it in a little, im still under waranty on it, got a CDA-9857, pretty nice deck. So if all else fails, go trade it in for a non-blown one.

Id say the amp outputs in the deck are fried. Try putting in a new deck or running speaker wire off the deck to a speaker and see if it does anyhting.

Yeah, just checked the fuses, still clean in the deck...i suppose im gonna return it in the morning, install the new one and see if that fixes the problem. If that isn't it, then what else could possibly be it?

If you have the Monsoon system, then you could have blown the Monsoon amp. There was a member on here that did not have the Monsoon system, but still found an amp in the same location. Anyway, to find it, remove the spare tire panel and at the top of the wheel arch you will see the back of the amp (its facing the quarter panel). Its black on a black plastic bracket.

I know.
If you read my post.... I pointed out that another member on here didn't have the Monsoon system but still found an amp back there. I was just saying to check just in case.

If a burning smell came from the speaker, you blew the speaker, not the amp or head unit.

Test all of the speakers in the cars. Get a 9 volt battery, or a battery from a cordless drill, and hook it up to the speakers. You just want to tap the wires on there, not a solid connection. If you tap the wire and the speaker moves out, it still works. If it won't move, the speaker is blown. Replace the speakers that are blown, then go from there. Your deck is probably fine.

Blowing all 4 speakers from hooking the amp up to one seems highly unlikely to me....

Testing all 4 is just to be safe But people have had the problem before where one speaker gets blown but more than one will not play. The factory wiring in our cars can be funky sometimes.

It wasn't the Bose system.
I don't remember any other details.
It surprised me too.
If I find the thread, I'll post it.
I know...... sorry.

I didn't think the speakers were wired like that, although one is blown, most def, im gonna go replace it witha spare speaker i got. check back in a few.

Edit: Checked the new speaker, and its a no go, i get a faint pop when the stereo ingages, but thats the extent of sound comming from the speakers. thinkin its the deck now.
