Default Research down to 2 HU's

Research down to two models. I have always been an alpine guy and was going to buy the 9885, its a mid priced player with enough options for now.

I read up on a couple Kenwood models as well that are very interesting and I was wondering if you guys know any pro's or cons on the X891 and X990. Let me know what you guys think on these models and the 990 is on sale and cheaper than the lower model891 so I want to move on it soon.

Maybe not accurate but the Kenwood also has a g meter to display acceleration times, and g's. Just another little fun feature if nothing else. Anyone have experience with this feature?

Off of this topic but can you guys post some pics of dash kits and where I can get them.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I've always owned Kenwoods but you cant go wrong with Alpine either. The G meter is fun for a whole 5 seconds and then it's completely stupid. Really if your taking turns you shouldn't be staring at the Gs on the stereo instead of watching the road. Also the G meters animations are pretty lame, and on all the kenwoods I know of you can't display song info on top of the G meter info so it gets old fast. I never use the G meter features on my Kenwood. Sound quality however is excellent and they are a little more flashy then Alpine but Alpine definitely puts out a great product, you can't go wrong either way IMO. Oh yeah, get a humount dash kit... http://www.humount.com/

I know there is no clear winner, but I am interested in hearing the pro's and con's from those of you who have this head unit.

I had the cda-9857 in my vette...that the cda-9885 replaced and loved it. If you have an Ipod, I highly recommend it. If you don't have an Ipod, get it and save up for an Ipod I just bought a cda-9885 to put in my camaro, I'll report once it's here. For the money you can't go wrong though, especially what they go for on the online auction site.

I bought the cda-9881 a few weeks ago, but realized the Ipod integration wasn't as good as the other. I've got it up in the f/s section if you're wanting to save a few bucks for similar features...

My $.02 go with the Kenwood. It has better preamp outs with higher voltage, better sound shaping, higher rms wattage, aux input (iPod, satelite, etc.), and 2x the factory warrantee. Alpine makes a nice deck too but I'd take the Kenwood in this case.

Installed the Alpine CDA-9885 with the optional iPod interface to replace the tired factory unit - simply awesome! You can't go wrong with the Alpine 9884 IMHO - 4 volt 3 filter output and subwoofer control in a sleek package with renowned quality.

Hooked up my 9885 over the weekend. Everything is still run off the Monsoon amp. It will play louder without distorting but not too much. Next step will be to hook up my RF amp for the front JL components. It does everything I need it to. I do love the look of the HU. To me it is nothing special.
