Keep the input coming everyone, this is definately helping. I may start buying components through the web (i.e. ebay, crutchfield, etc.) Can the existing wiring harness be used partially? If the connectors need to be changed (minor obstacle). Or does it need to be completely re-ran? Thanks again for the help.

You'll essentially be running new wires for everything. Use 12 gauge speaker wire as it doesn't add much cost and it's very easy to snake through the rubber conduit in the door. I got a 250' roll of 12 gauge speaker wire for like $4x and you don't even need anywhere near that much.
Can you give us some ideas of speaker brands you've heard and liked, both home and car?
If I have to make a recommendation for a component system without knowing what you like, I'll probably say Rainbow SLC265.

While at the sound shop, I listened to JL and Hertz. The second shop didn't even offer to let me listen to the products. I had written a letter requesting a bid for the work and they went straight to their computer and started punching in items. NO thought was even given. Just 'let's sell the $$$$$ stuff'. Both the Hertz and JL had nice sound. I'm wanting to get a good surround sound effect on the car. When it comes to the different components, I'm clueless since I don't follow audio equipment. This section of our forum has been my starting point for my research. I've read both LONG sticky threads that covers the monsoon system and speaker upgrades. Still confused to a degree.

I've never heard Hertz and my exposure to JL component speakers is limited, so maybe someone else can break down the qualities of those speakers. Or maybe you can explain what you liked about them. Were they sort of laid back or bright/sparkly in the treble or what?

What does the stock speaker wires look like? I see some clear insulated speaker wire under the dash? Is this stock or aftermarket? I have not had a chance to pull a door panel to see if the monsoons are there or aftermarket speakers.

Yes it is similar to some that I have in the house. Here's a couple of pictures from the passenger side dash. Do you know which wire controls the dome/map lights on and off when the doors open/close?

Dragonrage, Here's what I found in rear sail panel and the panel by the back seat. I'm guessint the rear sail panel speakers are the stock ones. They may or not be hooked up. Any ideas what brand is in the place near the rear seat?

Sail panel speakers are the ones in the back seat and those are Alpines. Someone had no idea what they were doing when they replaced those, because those speakers are not at all suited to that location, being meant for (sub)woofers, not full-ranges.

DAMN! Thats expensive as ****! I just replaced my stock system with Infinity's in the front and Rockford's in the sail panels and I'm pretty damn happy with the $200 I spent.. Installing was a breeze and the only thing else I would do is a new headunit/amp to control them a lil better..

Are you fking kidding? All that money for labor? There are plenty of guys on here who would do that for a few beers or a few pulls on a bottle...And honestly, a lot of our (ls1tech.com) guys are better than many installers in retail.

I agree that is some HIGH prices. The other two shops in the area didn't want the business. As far as the shops in Port Arthur, they are just branches of the those first two I got the estimates from. I'll probably start ordering components off the web later this month or in June. Paying another vehicle off (2 yrs early) this week. Cash flow will be better in June. Yippie.

I will say this their labor prices are right in line with some of the high end shops I've been to. Thats why I decided to do it all myself. Then I couldnt just put the hi quality stuff in there without sound deadening first. That led to a complete interior removal of the car down to the sheetmetal. 3 stage sound deadening and then re-assembly. The fbody is toooooo easy to pay anyone to do it for you.
