Default hid fog lights

Hey every one I was wondering if anyone else has put HID fog light kits in? I just did mine and they look amazing. I have had one problem a 15amp fuse keeps blowing out? It wipes out my instrument cluster!!!!! I keep putting a new fuse in but that is not the fix! I think i will wire up a wire harness for them. Any comments????????

Thanks Hunter

You can upgrade the fuse 5-10 amps.

Not generally good advice. In this particular case the circuit is wired with 14-gauge or larger so it can safely handle some additional current (although I wouldn't put a 30-amp fuse in this 20-amp circuit). It is not usually a good idea to put a larger fuse in any circuit. This is especially true if it takes some time for the fuse to blow - any fuse will protect against a dead short but an over-current condition can cause a fire if the fuse is too large.

Just add a relay, use the original switch and circuit to control the relay, and power it directly from the battery (fused of course).

HIDs draw less power, only need the initial jolt on stat up, which is probably why his fuse is blowing. Granted I have never had to do it on cars, but every bike requires an 5amp higher fuse for the headlights.

That could be...in which case a "slow-blow" fuse of the same rating would be safer. The fuse we're talking about is the TAIL LPS fuse so it covers a lot more than just the fog lights. That's why a bigger fuse is a concern. The fog lights may work perfectly with a bigger fuse but if something happened someplace else (say in the wiring to the tail lights), the bigger fuse could prove to be a fire hazard.
