The V1 is upgradeable meaning when a new version comes out, you send yours back to the manufacturer and for a small fee (depending how old yours is, still not that expensive) will upgrade it to "new" quality. So no having to dump $300 on a new detector every time an upgraded version comes out. If you do get one and dont like it, they hold there resale value like no other.

Any detector is better than the one you have... but nothing is really going to save you from a ticket 100% of the time or even I would say 50%. I have a detector, is a pretty cheap one, but has warned me, I slowed and there was a speed trap, so it can help. Instant on is the killer one, but going on 10 years without a ticket for me. All those ones listed above I have heard are the best.

check out radardetector.net

the big 3 all have there advantages and disadvantages.

price per performance you can't beat an x50 off eBay for around 150 dollars, but ask around and find a REV 5. better K band performance.

Bel STi is my primary detector at the moment, and its a great unit. Compact, built like a tank, and has excellent performance. My backup detector is a Escort 9500i, but it's got a few flaws right now so it will remain the backup.

I used a Valentine for 3 years and it finally drove me crazy. The things are excellent at alerting but god they suck at filtering.

for better information visit radardetector.net you'll get anything you can imagine answered.

you can reprogram your V1 to filter or ignore certain bands/strengths, automatic muting after a certain amount of beeps, etc...
