Replacing just the headunit is easy... its in the FAQ too:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/wiring-stereo-electronics/303776-frequently-asked-questions.html

You need:
* Mounting Kit
* Wiring Harness
* Steering Wheel Control Adapter

If your headunit has wired remote input, you can use a PAC SWI-?. (The ? is to denote the manufacturer-specific unit. Example: PAC SWI-PS works with Pioneer and Sony.)

If your headunit does not have a wired remote input but it does have and IR remote, then you can use the PAC SWI-X. Its the universal IR steering wheel adapter.

The Monsoon headunit is a regular gm headunit that provides speaker-level outputs to the Monsoon amp. You can replace it with any aftermarket headunit that has an internal amp (almost all do).

Read the FAQ and do some searching for more specifics.

I have a kenwood 10-disc cd player that I bolted in the trunk for sale. $50 and that includes shipping. It worked fine with the steering wheel controls.

My CD player doesn't play past the 3rd or 4th track. I don't care though, since Satellite Radio is way better for me. And I always have an iPod and FM transmitter if I want to listen to my music.

I have the Monsoon head unit and 12 disc changer. Both work flawlessly. I am going on leave and will be driving through OK on 27 June if you want to buy it. I can let them both go for $100. I'll be on I-35 and I can meet you anywhere within reason near the interstate.
The changer was removed years ago by the origional owner and stored in a box. He reinstalled it when I bought the car to ensure that it works. I removed the head unit shortly after I purchased the car a year ago.
PM me and we can set something up.
