Default What alarm system does everyone have?

Well my brothers truck got broke into a couple days ago and they took everything from inside. He is now left with a cab full of wires where the headunit, amp, subs, and box used to be. He is looking into getting an alarm now and I'm helping him look but I know nothing about alarms. This is where I need you guys help. The local audio shops are offering him some alarm installed for $170. I don't know the brand or features since I didn't go with him. We don't anything fancy that plays the radio and rolls windows down or anything like that. Let me know what you got and what kind of features it has.

viper remote start. i love it. espicially in the winter time. i got lucky though, with installation, the alarm only cost me $300. at the time, it usually ran for $650-$700 just for the alarm.

Viper 1000 in the SS and a Viper 771XV 2 way with remote start in the daily driver.

Viper, Python, Clifford, Hornet, Valet, and a few others are all made by Directed Electronics(DEI), just go with either of those brands and you'll be good to go.

Oh..stay away from Best Buy for installs if you go with a Viper.

if you want the best protection, install the alarm yourself and learn how it works and do it as difficultly as possible. the harder it is to install, the harder it is for a thief to disarm it. if you pay someone to do it, they will all put it in the same way, and theifs look for these first.

hey I have a Python 1500 ESP. It has remote start. Today for the first time I disconnected the negative battery to do some stuff. When I put the negative cable back on it started up. Well this seems like a pretty big saftey feature. Seeing as the keys were sitting on top of the box next to the car. What could it be? I'm thinking about having the whole thing ripped out and a new alarm installed. Thanks for any help. And sorry for hijacking this thread
