Cluster mileometer question

Cluster mileometer question I am about to swap the cluster in my 2000 Camaro SS - will the onboard computer remember the correct mileage on the car or will it pick up the total mileage from the replacement cluster?
I don't know whether the mileage is stored in the computer or the cluster.
Any information appreciated.

Re: Cluster mileometer question From what I've heard, the mileage is stored on both the PCM AND the cluster. Not sure about the validity of the statement, but I have also heard that if you completely swap out your PCM, the mileage on the cluster has to be entered into the PCM to match exactly or else it rejects itself. Like I said, it's just something I've heard from down the line, but it is possible that it works in reverse. I personally would not think so, but you might want to check on it. It's all the info I've got on the subject... figured it'd be better than nothing. Good Luck

Re: Cluster mileometer question I don't see how a camero could be any different from any other GM vehicle but I know all the way up to 99 for a fact that the odometer can be stoped (or swaped)without the correct mileage poping back up. so changing it out shouldn't hurt it in the least. Now the rumor i have heard about the pcm is it does keep track of the milage since it's last reset so if the odometer showed less milage than the last reset then you could have a problem. I've also had people tell me they have had no problems getting vehicles worked on by the dealer after tampering with the odometer to prolong factory warranties. But i wouldn't suggest doing anything like that it's just bad.
