Default backseat pics & kicks

Here's a pic of the amps with the seat cover & the rack cover off. & I managed to get a pair of focal 6k2's in the kicks without losing an inch of leg room. cutting a little bit of metal out, there was enough space to house them. The factory kick panel got cut and a a cloth covered speaker grill. although they're so far down in the corner you really can't see any of it anyway. So Now the front stage is complete with a pair of quart 8's an k2 6's. Eventually I'll do some cleaner door panels to give the quarts a sealed enclosure when time allows.

p.s. would somebody tell me why I can't get pics to come up with my posts? everytime I try, it just shows the web address. tia.

I tried this:

But it obviously didn't work, does yahoo not allow direct linking maybe? I also tried [img] tag as well...

lol, you did every one of the little projects I'd been thinking about for my car, but I didn't have the ***** to just tear into it.

I've got a few questions if you don't mind?

For installing the Focals in the kicks, what kind of problems did you run into? I can't imagine the install on the drivers side was very easy. Also, what did you mount the speaker to?

For the 8"s in the doors, what kind of modifications did that take to make them fit? And did your door panels clear the speaker, even with the max cone excursion? If so, what kind of modifications did it take to fit them in there?

Great work on the amp rack too, but I don't think I'm going to tackle that one.

There is alot more space back there than you would think for the kicks. There is allready a hole there, I just made it bigger with a sawsall. The speakers would have fit flush if not for the bolts that stick out about an inch for the door hinge. I just used mdf to build a trim ring for the speakers and a little great stuff foam for a half *** enclosure. The difficulty level was equal for both sides, just a little trickier as far as the grill for the driver kick.
The eights were just trial and error as far as where to place them to clear the window. I had some 8" trim rings from a set of kicker eights that were a little bit larger than the quart 8" I placed them on the front of the quarts to keep the door panel off of the speaker during high excursion. The fibercore doors are real easy to trim, I used a razor blade to cut them. (not the strongest stuff). I cut away a large section of the door, made a 1/4 trim ring and countersunk some bolts, than screwed the speake into the trim ring. The trick is to keep the speaker as low & as far to the hinge as possible to clear the window. There is more pressure against the door panel, but it still fits fine. Later down the road, I'll build a new lower door panel and give those eights a little enclosure.

Great info, thanks man!

One last question, which model MB's were those 8's that you put in? I'm wondering if something like a DEI or a Kicker RMB would fit easier.

I don't know the model number, they don't list them on their website & never have even in their literature. Just find a mb quart dealer, & they can order them for you. They're kind of a special request, but they're not that expensive. I paid $80 each. Also, I have a pair of the kicker eights, I tried them in my ta for a while. They suck bad. In my opinion stay away from them. I thought about the dei also, Got to love neodynium magnets. I never could find a good deal on them though. Please let me know if you ever get a chance to use the dei. I'm curious to know how they sound.

My main reason for going with the DEI if/when I do this, will be the for the quality of such a shallow mount free air speaker. They use inverted magnets, so the window shouldn't be as much of an issue.
