Question Autometer oil pressure sender unit

I've searched on this but cant find the answer I need. From the thread I read about installing these gauges 383ss suggests to use the Autometer Sending unit in the place of the stock one. I would assume then the one in the cluster then won't be functional anymore? Also wondering if anyone can give me any additional information about wiring it.

TIA....we're installing these today along with a cam swap

Thanks
Michelle

You just put in in place of the stock sender and attach a wire to it and run it through the firewall to the gauge. Your stock one won't work anymore and you won't need it either. I assume you are installing it behind the intake? If you want you can install the sender above the oil filter instead. That is were I installed mine. It is an easy install. Also run the power to the IGN port in the fuse panel. If you use the BATT the gauge will remain on all the time.

The PCM needs the stock oil pressure sender. You will need to drill and tap the oil cooler neck above the filter. You will also have to put a 90* elbow and some extensions on it to get it away from long tube headers (if there are any).

New problem....installed the autometer sender unit in place of the stock one and the intake wont seat properly because of it. What did others do? They mention remote mounting in the instructions that come with the gauges but it doesnt say much nor does the website.

Yeah that sender is frickin huge. The only thing I can think of is if you use some fittings to offset it like a 45 degree elbow or a 90 even. Not real sure what to tell ya. How much does it interfere? You are correct that the stock PCM doesn't need it either. I mounted mine above the filter cause I have BS3 and didn't want to take any chances with it possibly needing it!

It's just sticking out enough that the tubing on the intake is hitting it. The intake wont seat properly . Autometer sells a 90° fitting and a kit with a steel braided line for a remote mounting on the firewall but the smallest length they have is 3ft. All I would need is about 6" of it.

Try summit. They sell fittings and tubing. You can find what you will need there and for pretty cheap too.

I called around to places that were dealers listed on Autometer's website and one place in Fredericksburg has it in their warehouse and I can get it tomorrow....problem is we cant really go any further with the cam swap with the intake off and it will take a couple days to get here. Ugggh!! I'm very frustrated... all this just for one gauge.

This is the item

I've seen the Autometers remote mounted from the stock location, but I preferred to do mine another way.

Check out this thread - third page toward the end is how I set mine up. Not my car in the pics, but I drilled and tapped the same location, ran a braided line up to the sender and then ran the wires into the car and up to the pillar.

Oil Pressure Sender location

With this setup, you retain the stock guage function, and avoid the intake fitment issues.

I've got tons of posts bookmarked regarding this if you have other questions.

Thanks for the link but seems everyone does that but what if you have BOTH oil temp and pressure gauges? I had sent an email to Autometer and today they responded back with the same thing and when I replied back and told the guy that I was installing both the oil temp and oil pressure he recommended the kit I posted a pic of.
