Default Factory Stereo Question

I have a 2000 Trans Am and I am putting pioneer speakers in and I noticed that the speakers on the side in the passenger seats have 4 wires instead of two do you just connect both positives and both negatives to one? Also the speaker only puts out bass there is no treble coming out of it is that the way they are from the factory?

The factory wiring has crossovers built into it... thats why your only hearing midbass in your rear seat speakers....in order to defeat this and get full range sound you have to run new wires from your head unit to all your speakers... its a bummer but well worth it for sound quality

I assume you're talking about the rear seat speakers? Most aftermarket speakers will sound like crap in that location, because the factory amp is 2 ohms and the factory subs are 2 ohms, but most of the aftermarket stuff is 4 ohms.

I'd either get new factory subs, or get a different amp to go with your new aftermarket speakers.

Check out the Stereo & Electronics section for better/more-complete answers. There are some good stickies there. If you can't find any good answers, then start a thread over there.

I don't know if it matters or not but it also has a panasonic cd player in it instead of the factory one. Does the factory on have the amp in the reciever since it is so big?

You have to get a whole set up. Weather you change the wires or not, the stereo will blow any aftermarket speakers you put in there. You either have to get the factory speakers with the factory monsoon stereo. Of you have to get a brand new CD Player with new speakers. Sorry man... Thats just the way it is with these cars.

No, that is a common misconception,

You can easily replace the headunit on a non-Bose 4th-gen f-body with a simple mounting plate and cheap wire adapter. Technically you can make the mounting plate and you can tap into the wires directly, but a harness is neater.

Also, replacing the speakers can be done while keeping the stock amp.

The stock rear seat speakers are DVC subs (Dual Voice Coil). That is why there are four wires. Two wires per voice coil.

You can find plenty more info like this in the Stereo & Electronics section by reading the stickies and searching. If you can't find your answer, then start a new thread in that section.
