Default Comparing amp/sub packages

I'm torn between the JL Audio and Alpine V12 amps. Which is better and why? This is what I am using them with.

Alpine 9811 MP3/CD player.
Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6.5x componets
Boston Acoustic Neo-mag 6x9's (dual soft-dome tweets)
1 Alpine 12" Type-R

Which would hit harder with the right kind of power, a 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2 or the 12" Alpine Type-R.

I can do the Aline MRD-M500 (500w x 1 at 2ohms) with the Alpine Type-R OR a Rockford Fosgate Power 1001bd (1000w x 1 at 2ohms) with a Punch HX2 for the same price.

I would go JL amps and Speakers.
The JL amp gives you more power over a wider voltage range. The JL will also give you 500 watts whether you run a 4 ohm sub or a 2 ohm sub. At 4 ohms, the amp will be running cooler and most likely perform better. The Alpine amp only gives you 500 watts at 2 ohms, so it will be working MUCH HARDER than the JL. As far as subs go, you can build the "Right Box" for either and "Tune" them for your particular tastes. Any GOOD Stereo shop should have access to box building programs (or be experienced enough) in order to do this.

Good Luck.

Go with the JL Amps I work for a dealer that sells both JL and Alpine and the new Alpine V12s suck. The ones they made two years ago rocked but these new ones are horrible. We did the MRVM500 500 watt Alpine on a single 12" Alpine Type R in a 96 Honda Civic, and even with the gains all the way jacked up it barely moved. We even called Alpines tech department had them go over the install with us, we even swapped in another Alpine amp and still no punch. Then we dropped in a JL 500/1 and without even tuning it it slammed it was like night and day. As far as subs go Rockford stuff is garbage. Spend alittle more and get the 12" Type R or if you want to spend alittle more get a JL 12W3V2 it will be alittle cleaner but still as loud. Ive owned both so I know.

I agree. The Alpine amps suck. I'm not a big fan of JL but I'd rather have the JL than the Alpine.

Yeah.. I agree just to with JL amps. They have regulated power supply that is why it will still yield 500w even if your voltage drops.

Then what would you get Beeler311? I'm not a fan of JL either but that is because I have never had anything JL. I have always heard that they were really good though. I have an old Alpine V12 MRV-T757 that is badass. I'm sorry to hear they suck now. And I agree Madboost, Rockford does suck but I did hear two 15" Alpine Type R's on a RF Power-1001bd and it hit hard as hell. That was in an Infinity QX4 with dynamatt everywhere.
So are the Alpine type R and the JL 12w3v2 close to the same? I get everything at cost so I'm not worried if it cost a little more. I would rather have a JL sub if I'm going to go with JL amps anyway.

I can attest to the quality of JL amps. They're a little pricey, but I think they're well worth it.

A good local Dealer that handles JL is worth considering. JL has AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Just give them a call, they know their stuff, and can help you out down the road. I feel their equipment is top notch!! Granted, there are more "competition" rated pieces you COULD consider, but for the $$ and the sound, along with the customer service direct from JL, it's the only new amp I'd consider IF I WERE IN THE MARKET FOR SOMETHING GOOD.

Later,
