Help me pick a USB compatible head unit
bought mine about 6-8 months ago. I love it... Yeah it doesn't play CDs but it has alot of cool features. I got a 80 gb ipod that pretty much stays in the car all the time so not having cds doesn't bother me at all. The settings on tthe audio side do kinda suck, but if you play with it you find the right sound for you.. factory fronts and "hatch" speakers in mine (no sail pnl speakers) with 1 JL w6 10 sounds amazing base is at -7 and treble is about +4/5.. Just got a new external HD that I am planning on mounting in the car so got all my music whenever i want it
I have a feeling its for very speical applications, like dolby, and that stuff.
Also i have been told on the computer you can adjust every 2hz from 20-20,000.
idk who really needs that unless your doing a comp. car or like a Maybach.
On another note. I love the CDA-9886. The display is much nicer than the 9887 and 9885. The blue/white looks amazing. They brought back the "Black Out" feature as well; turning off the display to make night driving more enjoyable. The whole thing feels more sturdy as well.
The main dislikes I have with it: The fact the USB plug is 4" long; the few audio settings (until the PXA-H100 is priced
)....Well that's pretty much it so far.
It doesn't play CD's but I have all my CD's on my iPod anyways so it doesn't matter. I have also hooked up thumbdrives to it and it works great.
Also have XM on it, I don't think I have listened to the same song twice since I put the HU in the car!
the reason i got it is because it controls the ipod and plays cd's.
the sound is amazing even with the stock monsoon speakers.

I agree on the 4" long USB cable...I put an extension cable on though and I'm all set now. I agree I could go for more audio settings...but it sounds pretty good as it is...soon as that PXA-H100 is available I'll have one (thats a BIG part of the reason I went with this head unit). Sound quality with the minimal adjustments is still better than the Kenwood was with lots of adjustment...
The display looks awesome, the control layout is great, and my PAC SWI-X radio control adapter was easy to reprogram to learn the Alpines remote functions. It feels like a nice sturdy head unit too, and the little plastic trim ring fits better than the Kenwoods ever did.
