Default Help me pick a USB compatible head unit

I have a Kenwood KDC-X590 in my Camaro right now...but it's not the best for clean/clear sound, and the screen died.

The reason I liked the head unit so much though, it has a USB cable that I ran down into my console that I can plug a thumb drive into with HOURS of music on it...and it's hidden (not sticking out of the dash or something when it's plugged in).

I like Alpine a LOT, but they don't have any USB head units, Pioneers seem to have good sound quality, but I don't want a television show going on in my dash...but I think the DEH-P690UB would work (too bad the DEH-P880PRS isn't USB as it is a WAY better looking unit).

I REALLY like Eclipse decks...but the good ones have 5 and 8 volt pre-outs...is that ok with amps that are rated 0.2-4.0 volts? The Eclipse 5100 and 7100 are NICE decks.

I agree. The pioneer DEH-P690ub is awesome. How about the alpine CDA-9886?
Looks badass to me and has the ability to do IMPRINT. I'm waiting for it to arrive here at my store. We're a week or two from having them.

^^Can you hook up ipods to that using a usb connection or just the full speed? It looks decent.

I have the pioneer 6900 in my truck and love it. I've only ever hooked my ipod into it and love how easy I can pick out any song I want to listen to. 4v preouts are always a plus. I'd recommend it.

I have yet to get all the info, but from what I've seen/read it's just the full speed cable.

I am hoping it is as slick as it looks.

I hope you enjoy it. Great for navigation through a library of music.

alpine iDA-X001: good thought; less than stellar presentation. It basically has no audio adjustments for $399. (Just bass and treble. Not even a Q factor)

Howcome I couldn't find the USB input specs on Alpines site? I like the CDA-9886 a lot from reading about it...how much is that IMPRINT stuff going to cost when it's out? Seems way more worth it than an Eclipse deck that'd cost twice as much and put a colorful LCD in my dash...which is exactly what I don't want.

Why can't you find it on Alpine's site? Their site just got most of the 2007 stuff up. The australian site usually has everything on it.

The current IMPRINT part for the CDA-9887 retails at $249 .
It has the CD for your pc and the Mic for tuning the deck in-car.

The 9886 imprint part hasn't been disclosed yet.

Crutchfield...I got free shipping and they include a wiring harness and a new install kit too...not that I need the install kit...but still cool of them. Plus this way I know they'll have it on record of when I bought it if I need warranty work done...I can't remember where or when I bought the current Kenwood...just that it's not that old at all and it's busted.

Where do you guys get the install kits with the Camaro text on them? Are they backlit or did you add that sroach20?

Type humount in google and either hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button or just click on the first link that comes up. I just put one in my third-gen firebird. I had to cut a whole lot of stuff up, including most of the humount itself, but after seeing it in there it was so worth it. They come backlit with LED's

Default Sony (and I'm really not a Sony fan)

I got this Sony HU with front USB and Aux In from CC for $100.00 installed.

I'm not a audiophile but it sounds good to me. Mainly it was cheap and allowed me to use both my Sirius and my iPod.

Let me know, maybe i will look into it also.

My CDA-9886 came in yesterday...I'll solder the harnesses together this weekend if I have time so that I can install it...it looks really nice, I'm pretty excited about it.
