kicker solobaric's all have a 16-20% larger cone surface than their circle counterparts. so they push more air. th more air you push, the louder the bass! so to answer his original question if they "bump" more...as long as air space is taken into consideration when fabricating the proper enclosure, and sealed versus vented/ported is also thought about...then YES. squares do bump more.

Incorrect. They have more Sd (surface displacement) but their Xmax sucks at about 14mm. A good subwoofer these days has at least 25mm. My Fi Q12 will blow away a 12" L7 in both Vd (volumetric displacement) and sound quality.

Actually, most of the good ones that have been out for some time have about 20mm of xmax. It's just that most people have never heard of anything car audio outside of Alpine, Kicker, and Infinity. Adire, RE Audio, Fi, TC Sounds, (I know I'm leaving several out) generally considered to be some of the best. They just don't have the marketing budget the big audio companies have. Funny thing is they are pretty reasonable on their prices also.

kicker L7's are some sweet subwoofers i had three 12's in the back of my intrepid with the right box made basically the whole trunk and it sounded good and was loud I also had the 3 kicker 1200watts amp pushing them so they had enough power apiece and the proper air space required, Ive also had 3 12's jl w7's and they werent louder sound quality alittle better but no enough to make a diffrence, i'v also had jbl, infinity, mtx, audiobahnm, pecision power too man to list and hands down I'll take a L7 anyday...

Good response. We live in a 3d world. Not 2d.

Don't forget the out of phase node cancellation from the odd shape and resulting wave form.

Default thank you

thats right! the L7s are the sh*t! so again, the LOUDER BASS is from KICKER! he didn't ask about phase, THD, vd or any other std! lol this guys asked about SPL not SQ. I agree with what y'all said, but for something that this kid's gonna find in a major retail store...then KICKER is gonna be his best option...price not with standing.

in you're looking for something easily found in a store with loud bass i'd recommend a JL W7 or MTX 9500. other than that id recommend RE Audio

You obviously don't understand how sound reproduction works. The more air you move, the louder you get. Moving more air means you have a better Vd. And phase issues can cancel out some of that volume and make it even worse.

Put it this way: I can go find a 18" woofer from 1972 that only has 3mm of Xmax. Is it going to move more air than your 12" L7 just because it's bigger? No.

Quick Reply: do the square bass speaker bump more then the circle ones?
