Does the closed cell foam make a big difference? Not to hijack your thread Andy, but I've pretty much done the same amount as Eskimo and was wondering if adding the closed cell foam will make more of a difference. I've got mostly factory sound stuff with the addition of a stealthbox and a set of components up front (same as Andy's) and it sounds decent, but I still hear the exhaust pretty well. Just curious.

As I understand it, the deadening helps by changing the resonance of the panel, but the ensolite absorbs frequencies across the board.. The guy from RAAM really believes strongly that both will give the best results.

I'm doing a layer or 2 of ensolite through the whole car, and 2 maybe 3 in the hatch area, but i'm getting a little silly with the deadening. My exhaust is pretty loud and we take the car on our road trips, so I want it as comfy as possible without compromising the performance significantly.

GM interiors really are put together like ***, so hopefully this will help with the rattling and buzzing..

The Rammat site is pretty informational. I think I will end up ordering a roll of the deadener and ensolite from him. As you stated, it ranked fairly high in a deadener competition.

Thanks

If you want to wait a few days, I have a feeling I might have ordered too much, I may have some or a bunch left over.. I should know by Sunday.

Just a quick fyi, Elemetal Designs switched over to all butyl mat and might be a bit cheaper if they still have a discount (type "forum" in the search bar).

I used about 2 1/2 rolls out of the 3 I ordered, so it's not worth sending...

And, 6 yards of ensolite is just enough to do the interior and doors of an f-body.

I'd recommend double that. Do 2 layers under the carpet. Actually, I'd have preferred more like 3-4 from a road noise perspective, but the carpet wouldn't fit well enough if I had attempted that I think.

I wasn't planning on doing underneath the carpet in the cab area. I was just going to do the insides of the doors, under the door panel, and the rear hatch area behind the rear seat. I guess if I am going that far, it would make sense to do the whole interior to deaden the rattle box cars we own.

So if I read this right, you ordered:

(3) Rolls Rammat deadener = 62.5 ft^2 (3) = 187.9 ft^2
Cost: $109.16 (3) = $327.48

(6) Yards Ensolite
Cost: $11.06 (6) = $66.36

TOTAL Cost: $327.48 + $66.36 = $393.84

If I went this route, I would have to wait a little while to save up money for this added expense. I will keep everyone posted.

2 rolls would be all I'd use if i was to do it again.. I did 3 layers in the hatch, 2 everywhere else (mostly) and it was a bitch to get the t-top holders back in.. in fact I'm not sure if they'll work anymore.. Gonna have to get creative with the dremel if it doesn't. The carpet wasa little more difficult to get back in.

I used maybe 1-1/4 cans of spray adhesive on the 6 yards of Ensolite, so going with 1 per 4 years seems about right. It's good stuff, too!

End result... WELL worth it. The interior is alot quieter, drone is much reduced, gear whine is all but eliminated, and the midbass from the doors is impressive! The only downside is I'm hearing little rattles that were masked by all the other noise before.. gonna get 'em one by one.

It's worth it.

Just a shortened nickname - "Quinn the Eskimo" - And there's a chance I'll be moving up to Eastern PA - does that count?

white lightning dont you think that 9.1 is a little much for that 10w6?
they are only rated for 600w and the 9.1 puts out 900w at 12.5 v so closer to 1000 or better at 14.4 v
