I have a 2003 Silverado and I was wondering if I wanted to get a nicer radio/CD player will I still be able to use the steering controlls? The sales guy at the local Soundtrack couldn't tell me for sure. Thanks!

ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE!?!?!??!
The right car electronics shop can make this work, most likely with an ir repeater and a head unit that uses a remote. I know this solution exists for other vehicles with steering wheel contols. I'm not sure whether there is a "fix" for your BRAND NEW VEHICLE.
Best of Luck with this,

U can buy a unit that wires into the radio and all as a "hardwired remote" kind of deal. They are pretty much universal. For about $60-$100. Depending on the store. Near about all Stereo stores carry these. But yes u can use them with aftermarket radio. I'm about to put one on my car so I can use the steering wheel controls with my Alpine. Laterz and good luck. To my knowledge, Soundgate makes one JUST for the Din 1/2 Alpine decks.
PAC makes one that is 3 wires, and a IR eye, power, ground, signal. It will work on 99% of headunits with a remote eye.
