2ohm, dual voice coil speaker wired in series = 4ohm load?
or
2ohm, dual voice coil speaker wired in parallel = 1ohm load?

Im cheap and going with a Cerwin Vega V MAX 10.2 10 Inch 1200 Watt Subwoofer
and a Soundstorm 1500 watt class D mono amp.
The sub description says it can be wired as 1ohm and the amp could handle 1ohm load. So will these work together?

Your not exactly cheaping out on the sub. That sub runs about $120.00. For about $30.00 more your in RE Audio land which is a great sub. I have a brand new NIB MA Audio MA1000XL I bought for someone and they changed there mind and went with the CDT. If you want it it's yours for $80.00 shipped. This is a beefy sub.

So my current setup is an 8" JL 8W1v2-8. Optimum rms is 125w. This is also an 8ohm speaker. My amp is an Eclipse EA2000. It says the max output is 175x1 at 4ohm. Since my speaker is an 8ohm amp does that mean I am only getting half of the power the amp is producing?
8ohm speakers are generally for home theater applications. 4ohm or less is generally for car audio.
