Default Daytime Running Lights

Hey guys, posting for a buddy here but he just bout a car and imported it to Canada. The car didn't come with DRLs so we need to fit it with the modual. Any tips on the placement of the box and the best place to splice in for wires would be great. Best not cut anything till I get some oppinions.

The car is a 1998 Pontiac Firebird Formula.

Should I go direct to the bulbs or to the fuse box?

Seems like a pretty easy install but I just want some opinions on how you guys would do it.

Thanks,

B-Rad

If it's a 98+ Firebird from anywhere in North America, it came with DRLs. It's likely that the former owner disabled them. Check the DRL module - it's a black box about the size of a cigarette pack clipped to the defroster duct behind the radio - it may be unplugged or have some wires cross-connected to disable the DRLs.

Sorry just to clarify. The car is from the states. It is now in Canada. So to comply with our laws I need to install a DRL module. Just wondering if anyone has experience installing one of these modules and how I would go about doing it.

As I said, if the car is from the US then it already has the DRL module from the factory. The module could not have been removed because the turn signals also depend on it. So you just need to undo the DRL bypass done by the previous owner.

Now, if you're talking about automatic headlights, that's a different story. However, I don't think Canadian law requires automatic headlights even though Canadian Firebirds came with them. It's easy to just install the light sensor (about $20 at the dealer) in the dash to make them work.
