radio wires

radio wires ok first im going to rant.
the kid i bought the car from is a complete frickin idiot when it comes to electronics! he sucks at wiring ANYTHING much less the damn radio!
well he butchered n chopped the wires n shorted a couple out n melted them! and now im trying to fix it all back so that it looks normal and right.
is there someplace under the dash where maybe i can unclip the radio harness and replace it? or do i have to run new wires and put a new end on the wiring harness...i know its more trouble than its worth...but i want it done right. not farmerized in there. any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
