Default Speaker Set Up Help in Vert SS

Hey guys. I have looked over the FAQ and threads and still kind of stumped on what to do so Im gonna give it a go with asking everyones advice. I have an 02 SS Vert and I want to replace all factory speakers with a good high end speaker but I also wanted to add a little bass. Now I am not a bass freak by any means, but I like a solid, clear thump to my tunes. I want a good, no distortion speaker because when the top is down I really have to crank it up loud. I have two issues on which you guys can address:

1) what speakers would you recommend for replacing factory, i.e. brand, amplifer wattage/channels, etc.

2) can i fit a sub somewhere without completely filling my front trunk space? Any pics of similar set ups? the guy at the sound shop told me hes only done t-tops with the stelth box in back, but that verts cant do that. Also, if a sub can be done somewhere, whats the best brand with the clearest bass in a smaller size, like an 8 or 10?

Thanks for the help guys, I really need it!

Ryan

I'm going through a very similar situation. In my 2000 SS I had a box in the trunk (I still have the box) that had 2 Diamond Audio 12's. When the top was up it pounded like there was no tomorrow but when I put the top down, all it did was rattle the $hit out of my trunk. I'm thinking with my new SS that I'll put 1 or 2 small subs in the passanger area (probably do a rear seat delete box). This is probably the best and only way to get bass in a vert at all times. I'll let you know what I come up with and good luck with your search.

thanks for the reply. Someone told me to go with a real good high end component set with the mini-subs built in, but that still wont get you any true deep bass. I'm really at a lost until someone else can speak up and tell me what they did with their vert. Thats the only thing bad about a vert is no pillars for speakers!

A good high end component set of speakers can help. They won't hit like a 10" or 12" sub would but they can still do well. Especially on aftermarket power. Something else that may have been overlooked is the use of sound deadener. The best speakers will not live up to there potential without it. Minimum useage should be a door and trunk kit for a good speaker/sub upgrade.

if i remember correctly you will have a hell of a time getting most high end component setups to work with a vert, at least in stock locations, due to the depth required by most of the upper end speakers. worst thing about verts is the room we dont have available for speakers

Depth isn't as much of an issue in the verts doors anyway. It's the rear speakers that are the issue. Even so check out the new CDT slim designs.

Very similar to the design used by Critical Mass.
I also have other slim mount speakers that sound great.

i like those CDTs.....do you carry them? I also did some searching and found a guy on here that was making a small sub enclosure to fit in the upper trunk of the verts....he was selling them for 225 carpeted and everything, fits two 8" subs. I think some real good components, with some high quality 8s in the rear and everything running off like a 750watt amp would sound superb, even with the top down.

I do carry those and also carry some really nice 8" subs. These are SQ subs that sound great. The EF-8 are the ones I currently have in my car and feature a carbon fiber cone and cast frame basket. Combine these with a nice set of components and I think you would be set. Here's what they look like:

how much would two of these subs run? leaving aside just what you carry in your store, what in your experience is the better components out there, esp considering the set up i want with no distortion at high ranges?

The 2 subs together would run $159.00 + shipping.
Leaving aside what I carry in my store? The reason I carry them in my store is because I have full confidence in the products I carry. Why would I recommend something I don't carry? Kinda like walking onto the car lot and telling the guy "don't tell me about anything you have here on your lot".... Sorry, but that didn't make alot of sense to me.
I carry CDT, MB Quart, Alpine, Boston, Pioneer Premier, and a few others that aren't up to the standards of the products I just mentioned. I just acquired these brands so I haven't getten everything up yet. I guess a few of the ones I don't carry that are also quality brands are Dynaudio (which I actually have a version of), RE Audio, Morel and Focal. Of these brands I would say that CDT, Morel, and Focal are my favorite performers of the bunch with Boston, Premier, MB Quart, then Alpine following. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing the Dynaudios in person but hear they are a great performer as well.
My personal sound system is made up of CDT speakers and Re Audio subs with RF Power Series amplification. I have 2 12" CDT SQ Series subs enroute for a test run and comparison to the RE SE10's. The sound is clear at the highest volumes with little if any listening fatigue which sounds like what your describing.

kee, i did not mean to sound as if you do not carry speakers of high quality, i meant no offense. I too have had a friend who owned a stereo shop and there were a couple of brands that were really high end that he could not become a dealer for because of the many restrictions some companies put on their distributors, like how their shop is set up, what other brands they carry, location, etc. Like I said, did not mean to offend you, my intention was simply to say if you have heard any other top end stuff that you have not become a dealer for. I know you know your stuff, Ive read your many posts. I like those CDTs, I think I might want to go with them, but JB slim said its going to be a little while till he can put some more boxes out because he is in between moving into a new home.

It's all good!! I will be available whenever you need me!
For the record...I would like to carry those other brands as well...like you said there are limits they place on certain brands and it is very frustrating at times. I like the brands I carry just fine, but I also want to be able to give the customer, ie: you guys the most choices for your money. So I am always doing what I can to expand my product line because I always have to remember that someone may not like the current brands I carry for whatever reason...opinions will vary...so I try to keep a nice selection.
I'll be getting the other options up ASAP. I am also trying to work with a new web guy to get my site a little more organized and user friendly.

i have an 01 SS vert and ive gotta have the bass so i put a box n the trunk and yea it does take up just about the whole truck but its not my daily driver so it doesnt bother me. when the top is down it still thumps like hell, not quite as clear as with the top up but still sounds descent. ive got 2 10in infintys reference series which are like 1000w peak a piece. i also replaced all 4 speakers with eclipse speakers and sounds good, im about to amp them up too so idk how they will handle with extra power tho

thanks kee, i appreciate your help. On a side note, my dad owns his own security company and he also does home theater and home audio, and it was rediculous what Bose wants from you to become a dealer! Like i said, JB slim wont have some boxes for a little while, but as soon as he does, I will be ordering from you. Might go ahead and do the real strong CDT components for the fronts and two 8in CDTs for the rear with a good amp. How far are you from Augusta, GA? Thats where I grew up around and not far from me where I live now.

I'm northwest of Atlanta. Shipping would be cheap anyway but if you wanted to meet me that works as well. If you need an amp I have some nice ones from Alpine, Hifonics, Cadence, JVC Aresenal and several more.
