Premium Sound
My last car(2000 TA)had premium sound, and it sounded good as ****.
Right now I'm lookin at a 99 Z28 with leather, ASR, t-tops, just about everything...it says "monsoon sound"...is this just another name for premium sound, or am I not gunna be able to enjoy the little thump my TA had?

Tell ya what... I had the Monsoon system too and like you said it had a little thump nothing special like a sub. I changed out the head unit for the one in my signature and I have to say it sounds even better. I only spent 160 for the head unit, wiring harness, and mounting bracket. Well worth the money spent.

Monsoon is what GM called the better sound system in the F bodies. every T/A with an LS1 had it... and most Z28s/SSs do as well.
the pontiac head units actually say Monsoon on them.

It's not a GM thing, my ex-gf had Monsoon in her VW. In my monsoon equipped f-body however, I ripped the Monsoon radio/amp out, rewired for new door speakers, and put in a Pioneer deck, Polk speakers, and a Kicker amp and sub...now THAT sounds good as ****.

Yeah my monsoon system sounded like "****" too, rofl. Installed a pioneer DEH-500UB, bypassed the monsoon amp, infinity kappas in the doors, references in sail panels, Kenwood KAC-7203 amp with an infinity DVC 10" sub in a stealth box and now it sounds awesome.

Everyone keeps saying they god rid of Monsoon when they got rid of the HU or that their HU is Monsoon....says Monsoon on it.......etc.
There is nothing special about the HU in Monsoon equipped cars. It is just an ordinary Delco unit. The term "Monsoon" refers to the external amp/speaker configurations.

Yes, Delco is a brand name (a wholly owned subsidiary of GM) and Monsoon is an independent brand name (just like Bose). GM pays Monsoon to design an amp and speaker setup for their cars, adds a Monsoon label to one of their Delco head units, and sells it as a premium sound system in a number of different models.
