Optima red top. Unless you need a deep-cycle battery for running accessories while the ignition is off - in which case, Optima yellow top.

wheres the best place to get them. I saw a price for 150. If thats as cheap as they come, is there another battery that does a good job for less money. I am kinda cramped on money trying to do some other things to the car as well.

I have a yellow top in mine...it seems fantastic to me. Usually when I'm detailing the car, once I'm done rinsing I'll open the doors and start the radio blasting while I go around the car drying and cleaning door jams and cleaning the engine and vacuming the carpet...battery never seems to care, subwoofer pouding and all, it just takes it and when I'm done, the starter fires it right up.

I think Delco batteries are just fine. Heard too many stories about Optimas going bad after 3-5 years. I've been using Duralast from Autozone just because it's convenient, but I'd go Delco if Autozone carried 'em.

Unless replacement Delco batteries are different from the factory installed ones they can be a big source of trouble. The factory battery is infamous for split cases and leaking in f-bodies.

I've never had that problem with any battery, but I've heard many people say that they've gotten much better over the past few years.

The yellow top is a deep cycle battery. It is designed to take repeated discharge and still recharge as normal. For occasional use with the car off you shouldn't have any problem with a red top but if you tend to run the battery down a lot then the yellow top will perform better.

dam delco battery leaked acid all in my engine bay......have an Optima Red top in every vehicle in my driveway! Great battery, lasts a long time (one is already 3 years old and still pulls max power), good rep. For something cheaper, go with an Interstate battery. Had one for 7 years in my old blazer before it gave out. Great batteries. Last one I bought for my dad was like 70-80 bucks. But if you got the cash, Optima.

I know I'm bringing back an old thread...but just thought I'd add, Delco batteries are notorious for cracked cases and leaking acid not JUST in f-bodies...but also in trucks and Impala SS's (the cool ones from 94-96, not the new junk)...and probably more vehicles too. I had a 2002 Silverado 2500HD before I got my Z28, and one day the remote starter in it just clicked funny and the lights all went dim...I popped the hood and checked for a loose cable...when I grabbed the postive cable, the whole terminal came right out of the delco battery...still attached to the cable. It spilled acid everywhere. I was so pissed I had to walk to the store to get baking soda and water to clean the mess up while I waited for a friend to come by with another battery...then I had to replace the battery tray because the acid stripped the paint right off of it. Never going to have that problem with an Optima.

Are you putting some heavy audio stuff in? If so then hands down Kinetic! They can be purchased off E-Bay and I love mine.

Standard battery just go with something local in case it messes up. Keep it withing punching distance!
