Double DIN Installation

No, the brackets lined up with one of the original screw holes so I was able to fasten it in using an original screw. But it's snug enough that I still need to use a screwdriver to get enough leverage to slide it out so it wouldn't go anywhere even without the mounting screw.

I made my mount using strong ties and jb weld. I wanted something strong since I had to get rid of the plastic tray that goes under the radio.
The clean holes are for the screws, and the dremeled out ones are for the bezel clips to pass through. It mounts using the factory screws and holes. I'll see if I can find the pics that I have of it mounted.

The basic wiring is the same as for any head unit - just use the normal wiring adapter and match up the wires so that it will plug in to the factory harness.
In this case, there were additional connections necessary for the external modules (bluetooth and satellite radio) as well as a wire to connect to the VSS signal for improved GPS accuracy. If I had added the rear view camera there would have been a video cable and a trigger wire that connects to the backup lights.

Does C3-16 have a wire?
I didn't look the last time I had the radio out.
(That was some time ago too.)

Unfortunately, since the Firebird doesn't have the automatic volume that Camaros have, the VSS wire isn't in the stereo harness. I found it in connector C220 under the glovebox. There are two inline 10-pin connectors there - one white and one blue. The VSS wire is the dark green with white in one corner of the white connector.
