Brian, IMPRINT basically is a reference mic that you put in the car in the different seating locations, and it EQ's a TON of points along the range of frequency's that the human ear can hear to try to make the audio as "correct" as possible in a car...it also does time correction on the speakers based on those listening locations and the individual speaker locations.

actually the kits for the 9887 and 9886 are different as far as I could tell
9887 kit

9886 kits

not sure if the 9886 kits works with other unit or not?

I believe you also need the Alpine PXA-H100 along with the KTX-H100 for the 9886. I am trying to decide but I may do the same thing as you, but I am just not sure what the differences are between the 9887 and 9886 once imprinted?
listed under the Alpine PXA-H100
audio processor for use with most 2008 Alpine Ai-NET receivers

The KTX-100EQ is NOT a processor. It goes in for tuning as well (with the 9887) and comes out when not tuning...the difference is the 9887 has the processing power already built into the deck, the 9886 needs the standalone. Also I believe the 9887 has a burr brown DAC that the 9886 does not.
I've done a bit more digging on this, and with a 9886 and a PXA-H100, you can use EITHER the KTX-H100 or the KTX-100EQ for tuning...I think Alpine did that as a lot of shops already invested in their own KTX-100EQ's for in house tuning work so it's backwards compatible...I don't know what if any differences in tuning capability there will be...not sure I'll ever need to know either...I am just happy the KTX-H100 is CHEAP to buy.
Also, you CAN run a PXA-H100 with a 9886 without a KTX-H100, and it gives you more EQ control than you had before...but for the price to go all out and get both, it's definitely worth it to me.
What I think is cool is Alpine is releasing similar hardware that'll work with factory stereo's too. Stock monsoon deck didn't have the input features that I wanted...but when you want a stock looking interior...you can't beat a factory head unit.

that would be an awesome solution if possible
they appear to be the same thing just 30 dollars versus 250
I mean hell, look at the picture from crutchfields website
it says KTX-100EQ on the module, and its the kit KTX-H100

here's the link
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...XA-H100&tp=116
The CD says the same thing, KTX-100EQ
if this is true, I have made my decision, Alpine 9887 and KTX-H100, 430 shipped
Nevermind, alpine's website clears this up
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=KTX-H100
includes
* • CD-ROM
* • USB Cable
* • Microphone for measurement
ok I might have to take that back crutchfield says
Alpine KTX-H100 includes
* tuning kit works in concert with Alpine's PXA-H100 IMPRINT Audio Processor
* includes a calibration CD-ROM, microphone and cables, and a junction box for connections
