Default System > Alternator..?

Does having say, the sound system in my signature, require a higher amperage alternator?

Just wondering cause Im changing my alternator today again (3rd one in a year- 1st-> Crapped out same day 2nd->lasted a month 3rd-> Lasted about from last summer)

PS. people who work at Pepboys are ******* MORONS.

A cap would prevent your problems if the system is actually the problem. It's well worth it if you're pushing 1000+ amps

I think an alternator upgrade is essential anytime to put any more load on it, like systems or electronics, etc. I just got a alterstart 200a for 276 shipped.

I just didnt think there was much difference than stock 105amp than aftermarket 110 or 120. I just got a new "Prostart platinum" instead of a refurbished Bosch. So hopefully this will do?

With your system you could benefit from the bigger amp alt, and the stock 105 amp alt only puts out about 60 or so at idle.

My daily driver is an Infinity M30 (said to be 1 of only 5000) and I have aL7 15" and a Kenwood KAC-1023 amp I also have a Zappco AG 350 for my highs. I have made brackets to hold an additional alt. It is a 100 amp Gm 3 wire, this will go to a second Batt. 1 farad Cap. then to just the Kenwood KAC-1023. This is how I think it should be done if not with and even bigger second Alt to provide enough power to do the mids.and highs as well.

Yep Pepboys sucks...I worked there for about 2 months (Mech) and said hell with this and went and worked for a Contractor I know. The Remans there suck....they almost always had defects. The "New" Alternators had a fraction of the issues. Regardless I dont buy parts from there anymore.

BIG 3 IMO is all you need

69z-28 (Matt) on the board has 2 1200wrms amps and a 70x4rms 4 channel in his TA for a while on the orgional alternator with big3 wiring and while yes there was some light dimming it was minimal.

Basically do the big3 and get a quality alternator and you shoudl be fine.

The big 3 is the (+) wiring from the alternator to the battery, the (-) wire from the battery to ground, and (-) wire from gound to the block, if I remember correctly. You upgrade the wires to a 4 or 0 gauge with the same reason that you run a larger wire to the amp, less resistance. By ugrading the big three, you're able to maintain the charge on your battery much easier.
