Default Mtx 9500

I am needing some help. I bought 1 12" MTX 9500 subwoofer and I am having a problem finding a box that will work. I tried at subthump and they said that there boxes won't work. If anyone knows anything I can do I would really appreciate it.

build your own, or have a good person/shop build it for you.

Yea I guess thats what I am going to have to do. I have done a lot of checking around and I can't find anyone that will build a box for a single 12. Thanks for the advice.

If you were closer to new orleans i would, but if you check with sound shops, i dotn see them turning down work, unless they are ridiculously busy.

I found a place locally that said they would do it. They are going to take measurements so that I get the proper air space for that speaker. They are going to use 1" MDF for the piece that the speaker acutally rests on then 3/4" for the rest. They are going to wrap it in a black vinyl and it looks like its gonna cost $250-$300. Does that sound pretty reasonable? Thanks for everyones help.

Is this box going in the left rear where the CD changer would normaly be? If so, make sure that it is going to be molded in to fit the space. If not, I don't see geting the airspace for a 12. My 10 bearly has enough and it's molded in. I have seen 12's back there but never heard them. Everyone I know is running a 10 or using the well.

Id guarantee that he isnt doing a stealth box, The sub is way to big for such a little space and that would be way to much money to pay for a stealth box.

But im interested in seeing the box when its done.

Well good news. The box is in the process of being built I talked with the guy that is building it and we had to figure out the right air space for that speaker. Im not using a stealth box box just something custom because yeah that speaker would never fit in a stealth. We figured out that the speaker in a sealed box needs 1.25' of space and we had to actually downsize the original style because of too much air space. I am still going to more than I need at 1.66' but he said that should just give that speaker a deeper note. My amplifier should be coming in Tuesday and the box should be done hopefully by tomorrow! I will post pics so everyone can see the end result! Thanks everyone for your help!

How about I HAVE NO CLUE! Everything is done but I am just not getting the sound I thought I would... I had the audio place go back and make the box bigger and with the extra air space it sounds better but not the way everyone says it should sound. Some people say its the amplifier thats not strong enough and some people are saying its the alternator! Please someone help! I called MTX and gave them the specs of the speaker and told them what kind of car I drove and they told me to get the Thunder Elite 1501D. We have the speaker wired at 2ohms and the amplifer claims to push 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms. Please someone give me some info....

well what are you expecting from the speaker? The amp you have should be good if its really 1000 rms @ 2 ohms. try sound deadener.

It wasn't that they built the box wrong... Mtx specs said that the speaker needs 1.25 cubic feet. Thats what we built the box for and the speaker sounded like crap. They called Mtx and they said that that was a misprint and the speaker could take a lot more air space. So they re-built the box and it sounds a lot better but I was expecting it to sound comparable to maybe a L7 15. Or at least the audio place said it would be. There is sound deadener already in the box. So I don't know what to do.

Sealed that enclosure max is supposedly supposed to be 1.25ft^3. It says .63-1.25ft^3 sealed and 1.25ft^3 for a ported enclosure. I would tend to lean toward the enclosure being to large as being the issue. Alot of 12" subs tend to do well in about 1.0ft^3 sealed and 1.5ft^3 ported (depending on tuning). Sounds to me as if they've built you a box with enough airspace volume to have to be ported in order to sound right.
Ask your place if they have a prefab 12" sub enclosure laying around the shop. Most places do. Load that sub in it and see how it sound as most prefab units are about 1.0ft^3 for a 12" sub. This will help to determine if that is an issue.
