the 9500I has learning memory from Gps. It will recgonize Falses after awhile and block them out.

Personally, I love the 9500. Love the flashing Mph as soon as it goes off also, so you get a true accurate reading the moment it goes off of your Mph. I personally had a head to head test driving 6hrs 3 weeks ago. my buddy was next to me in his car and i was in mine talking on 2 way radios, My 9500i went off 3 seconds before his did. And we were dead next to each other.

Now on another Note, This topic can be beaten to Death. its just like Alpine, kenwood, or Pioneer. Its like Pro charger and Vortech. No matter what it is all personal preference.

+1 Vote for the 9500I. All the bands can be turned on/off. Speed traps can be marked and the speed warning is nice. More exact than your speedo.

thank you guys. Trust me, i've heard about the V1. All the hype about it is ridiculous. The 9500i sounds pretty damn nice though. Now here's my golden question:

If I get pulled over by a cop, for WHATEVER the reason is, and I have my radar detector hooked up.. Do I need to rush to hide the damn thing?

shouldnt have to they are not illegal....well depends on your location I know VA they are illegal there and I believe the other place is DC.

post your location and im sure someone can tell you if you should hide it or not.
but more than likely nope.

now just because they arent illegal doesnt mean the cop isnt going to be mad, some cops get mad when they see someone with a radar detector and if they were going to give you a warning chances are they will give you a ticket

In my experience...YES!

I got pulled over in my WS6 with a V1 (in Missouri where it is legal) and the cop was an a-hole about the whole thing. He wrote in big capitol letters: "RADAR DETECTOR" along the side of the ticket, and he told me that nomatter what lawyer I had, I wouldn't be able to get out of the ticket. He then interegated me about the radar detector, and even said: "If you wanted to know where the cops where, you should buy a CB radio." I literally laughed at him (which he didn't like) and said there was no way in hell I was putting a 6 foot antenna on my car. By the way, I was only going 80 in a 70, and he told me he knew that I had a radar detector because he saw my tail lights on the semi behind me when I tapped the break to slow down. What a joke...I was pissed to say the least.

But if I learned one thing, it was that if you have time, put the radar detector in your console so you don't get harassed.

hard wire it in with a smart cord and have it tight to your rearview mirror.

pretty much undetectable.

Radar detectors are illegal in Virgina, Washington DC, all military bases, and in commercial vehicles across the country (DOT regulation) plus all of Canada. They are illegal to have mounted to your windshield in Minnesota and California but you can use remotes, dash mounts, or visor mounts.

Active radar jammers (those that transmit a jamming signal) are illegal everywhere under federal law - the FCC controls transmissions in all radio/microwave bands. Passive radar jammers just don't work so nobody bothered to make them illegal.

LIDAR (laser) jammers are illegal in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, and Washington DC. These are controlled by state law because the FCC doesn't have jurisdiction over light emissions.

Brian, dude. sick setup.

I vote for the escort 8500i or 9500i. I am just waiting for my 8500i x50 to crap out (which it wont) so I get myself to fork over the $$$$ for the 9500i.

Quick question!!!!

On the 9500i will it turn on with a switched power source like the 8500i? I know the 8500 has the dial which you can keep turned on but the 9500 has an on button. I use the invisicord to hook it up to the rear-view mirror and am too spoiled by not having to turn on the detector each time I start the car. Not sure if I could deal with doing it again. lol

Whats LIDAR anyway?

LIDAR is an acronym for LIght Detection And Ranging - it's the formal name for laser speed detectors.

BTW, RADAR is also an acronym - it stands for RAdio Detection And Ranging because it uses the doppler effect of radio wave (actually microwave) reflection to determine speed.

Just remember, having your detector high on the glass and/or close to your rearview mirror really affects your laser detection abilities. I understand you may need to hide it from plain sight, but the best location is 6-8" above the top hood surface in the center of the glass. If you have a detector that doesnt detect laser that well in the first place, you're only making things worse. If you find you get laser falses from time to time on sunny days, slightly angle the detector downward.
